The service is available through the Georgia Medicaid Elderly and Disabled Waiver program and designed to provide eligible clients with certain benefits.
The program was designed to keep families together providing professional assistance and financial encouragement for a dedicated family caregiver. There are various medical conditions that may prevent a person from being able to care for themselves, such as arthritis, physical disabilities, and age-related conditions.
Caregivers who provide assistance with daily tasks like meal preparation, bathing, eating, transportation, and other activities of daily living may be eligible for the program. Additionally, clients also need to be living with the person as the primary caregiver and be related biologically or through marriage.
The Structured Family Caregiver program provides support to unpaid family caregivers who live with and assist an elderly and/or disabled waiver participant for a minimum of five hours of personal support service daily. Under the program, family caregivers are connected with a professional Health Coach who provides ongoing telephonic and electronic support. Additionally, the program is designed to offer the family caregiver a tax-free financial stipend.
