The scientifically proven benefits of UVC light as a germicidal agent against bacteria, mold, fungus, and viruses are explained in a new report from Saint Paul, Minnesota-based Think Air Purifiers.

Saint Paul, Minnesota-based supplier of air purifier devices Think Air Purifiers has launched a new report detailing the germicidal benefits of UVC light.

The new report can be read at: https://thinkairpurifiers.com/pages/air-purifiers-with-uv-light-benefits/

As the global pandemic has heightened people’s awareness of air-quality issues, the new report explains the scientific background of UV light as a method of air purification.

Ultraviolet C (UVC) refers to light with a wavelength of 200-290 nanometers. As the report explains, UVC light is very effective at destroying small organisms such as bacteria, mold, fungus, and viruses.

According to the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), “UVC radiation has been shown to destroy the outer protein coating of viruses. The destruction ultimately leads to inactivation of the virus.”

Given the efficacy of UVC light as a germicidal agent, it is unsurprising that air-purification manufacturers often incorporate UVC lamps or bulbs in their systems. However, the new report explains that the effectiveness of such systems depends on three factors: exposure time to UVC light, distance from UVC light, and power of the UVC light source.

As air purifiers generally pass air through quite quickly, the report explains several solutions that designers have used to ensure that UVC light bulbs within such systems have enough time to be effective.

The first of these solutions is the use of a HEPA filter, which traps harmful particles, giving the UVC light enough time to kill them.

The second solution is used by the manufacturer Airocide, whose products are supplied by Think Air Purifiers. The Airocide devices utilize NASA-designed filter-less technology that passes air through more slowly, completely destroying airborne bacteria, mold, viruses, fungi, volatile organic compounds, and odors.

Think Air Purifiers is certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an Indoor Air Quality Expert. The company supplies a range of air purification devices, including systems that incorporate UVC light.

A company representative stated: “Think Air Purifiers is an online retailer providing competitive prices on air purifiers. We conduct in-depth research on the air purification solution market so you don’t have to. We strive to provide you the most up to date, unbiased and scientific information to help you select the best solution for your clean air and health needs.”
