(Newswire.net — June 9, 2021) Orlando, FL — Excessive salt intake has long been something that many researchers warn against. In multiple research studies, it has been linked with various undesirable health consequences.
The good news is that consuming it at adequate levels may not be harmful. This is demonstrated by a study published in The Lancet.
This research was carried out by scientists of the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) of McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences, along with their research colleagues from 21 countries.
The study has shown that sodium intake of no more than five grams a day or the equivalent of 2.5 teaspoons of salt doesn’t increase health risks. It is worth mentioning that in developed countries, fewer than five percent of people exceed that level.
This large, international study also demonstrates that any odds of health dangers linked with sodium intake are virtually eliminated if diet quality is improved. This means adding more nutritious foods like dairy foods, vegetables, fruits, potatoes, and some other potassium-rich foods.
The research tracked 94,000 people, aged 35 to 70, for an average of eight years in communities from 18 countries worldwide.
The investigators specifically found an associated risk of cardiovascular disease and strokes only where the average salt consumption is greater than five grams of sodium a day.
The World Health Organization recommends the intake of fewer than two grams of sodium, and this is one teaspoon of salt a day. This can serve as a preventive measure against cardiovascular disease.
It is worth mentioning that scientists have found a direct association between sodium consumption and major cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke. Further, they found all major cardiovascular issues, which included death, reduced in communities and countries where there was an increase in the consumption of potassium found in foods.
As the rates of cardiovascular ailments continue to soar, more and more researchers look into the various techniques to reduce their prevalence.
In some highly interesting studies, researchers found that probiotics exert various mechanisms to benefit the heart. These beneficial bacteria may work in reducing blood pressure, which is a risk factor for heart disease.
A study has demonstrated that probiotic intake for 6 weeks led to significantly decreased blood pressure.
Another contributor to heart disease is high blood triglycerides. The good news is that probiotics may help reduce triglycerides, and this was found in a study involving probiotic treatment for 12 weeks.
In addition to its heart health benefits, probiotics have further been found to produce many other healing benefits. This is why today, it is widely used via supplementation like Divine Bounty Digestive Enzymes (www.amazon.com/Digestive-Enzymes-Probiotics-90-Capsules/dp/B076MDX648).
