(Newswire.net — July 12, 2021) Orlando, FL — Today, more and more people are struggling from the symptoms of arthritis. This incurable condition continues to affect more and more people today.

A study has found that 32 percent of individuals suffering from arthritis actually have a history of depression. Further, 19 percent of adult arthritis sufferers report experiencing frequent mental distress.

The same research has shown that there were higher percentages in states like Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Arkansas. The investigators suggest that there is a link between arthritis pain and depression.

This analysis, which was carried out by the centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), utilized the Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System. It is for the purposes of estimating the state-specific prevalence of frequent mental distress and history of depression among adults with arthritis.

This research included 147,288 adults in the United States, in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The officials of the CDC have reported that 22 percent of American adults have diagnosed with arthritis.

According to Dr. Anca D. Askanase, people with autoimmune conditions suffer from depression.

Dr. Anca D. Askanase is the director of the Columbia University Lupus Center in New York and an associate professor of medicine.

“Whether this depression is reactive to the stressors of the chronic condition or a separate issue possibly related to our autoimmunity is not fully understood,” Dr. Askanase adds.

Interesting, many researchers today are carrying out studies to look into the various aspects of rheumatoid arthritis and depression. There are those who are able to determine certain remedies that could be helpful in battling with both of these issues.

One is curcumin, which is a phytochemical that can be found in turmeric. This ancient, medicinal spice called turmeric has long been resorted to for thousands of years. It’s been utilized for various medicinal purposes.

There are many healing agents that can be found in curcumin, and one is its anti-inflammatory agent. According to experts, it could be useful in battling depression due to the fact that this mental health issue is an inflammatory disease.

Researchers say depression may be triggered by chronic low-grade inflammation and oxidative stress.

Aside from its anti-inflammatories, curcumin also has strong antioxidant benefits. It could aid in lessening oxidative stress, which is found to be a primary cause of depressive disorders.

Rheumatoid arthritis, on the other hand, is also linked with inflammation.
