How do you become an accidental social media star?
The main thing we wanted to find out was how you become a social media influencer without trying? DJL Dato Jonathan Lim says that it is all a bit of a blur.
“It started about 5 years ago when I switched my career path to IT,” he says. The switch of career ultimately led him to win several awards within Malaysia, including the Top 30 most Creative Entrepreneur awards and the top 100 International Business Style award. The switch saw DJL Dato Jonathan Lim creating IT businesses from the ground up. Once he had built them, he would allow partners to buy them over, or sell those businesses on for a profit.
Once he had sold on enough IT businesses, DJL Dato Jonathan Lim already had a sizable following on Facebook. He decided to branch out a little into the world of motivational speaking and corporate training. He traveled all over the country, giving talks to corporate events which inspired hundreds of thousands of workers. Many of them flocked to follow his YouTube or his Facebook pages.
Further social media growth came through his more recent forays into the world of property and housing development. This is where DJL Dato Jonathan Lim has made the biggest impact, both on others and on his reputation and wealth. He has amassed a property portfolio totaling more than ten million USD, allowing better housing options for Malaysian communities, and attracting still more followers to his brand.

What’s it like to be Facebook famous? DJL says he hasn’t let the fame go to his head. He still makes the same YouTube videos for the same people, giving motivation and serving as an inspiration to all on a weekly basis. His videos have hundreds of thousands of views and his name is known throughout the east.
What’s next for DJL Dato Jonathan Lim? We aren’t likely to see him styling it out with other celebrities just yet. With a glittering career ahead of him and an established fanbase behind him, the world truly is this young man’s oyster. Expected fame or not, we can’t wait to see what he does with it.
