Participants spend the day crafting a 30-minute business presentation that is designed to secure leads from prospects in the audience at the end of the presentation. Participants are given a 5-step structure for preparing a compelling short presentation.

There is a significant opportunity for business owners to promote their solutions via public speaking, says James McNamara. There are networking events, franchise meetings, industry association gatherings, conferences, business gatherings, special interest groups, meet-ups happening just breakfast lunch and dinner is just about all major cities, explains James.

Attendees to public speaking courses in Brisbane learn how to start their presentations powerfully. James recommends capturing the audience early, rather than beginning with the much overused “name rank and serial number” introduction.

Participants learn to engage the audience from the outset and bring their audience ‘into the picture’ of the presentation. One of the most important things that James teaches his participants is how to simplify their presentation. It is common for people to try and cram too much information into their presentation explains James. I teach people to choose the three most significant points and bring those points to life with story, example, application, information, and visuals.

Interestingly, for small groups, James recommends that people present without PowerPoint. We’ve all heard of death by PowerPoint, says James. People try to use PowerPoint as a set of notes. This leads to a non-engaging presentation and far too much information on each slide. In a small-group presentation, up to twenty people, it is better to connect with your audience, front-and-center, rather than play second fiddle to a PowerPoint presentation, advises James.

One of the most important techniques that James teaches his participants is how to secure a lead at the end of their presentation. James says, to hope that audience interested members will find you after the presentation is risky. People get busy with their next appointment and your presentation can be quickly forgotten. It is best to secure the lead at the presentation so that you know exactly who to follow up with, he explains.
