Scientific Evidence Now Linked Weight Changes With Decreased Bone Strength

(Newswire.net — August 10, 2021) Orlando, FL — There are many intriguing studies about bone health, but it remains true that problems like osteoporosis continue to affect many people.

It is important to be warned that osteoporosis is common in women. It often leads to the loss of bone density and makes the bone weaker and porous.

Statistics reveal that 1 out of every 2 women who are more than 50 years old develop the disease.

Scientists from Hebrew SeniorLife’s Institute for Aging Research, Boston University, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the University of Calgary carried out a study.

In this research, it has been found that weight loss may worsen bone architecture, bone strength, and bone density.

It is worth mentioning that this research was published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

According to Douglas P. Kiel, MD, MPH, principal investigator for the study, the study is significant because it used data on weight changes over 40 years in participants in the Framingham Study.

“We showed that men and women with both shorter-term weight loss over 4-6 years and longer-term weight loss over 40 years had more micro-architectural deterioration of their bones than persons who did not lose weight,” he adds.

The investigators stress that there was a clinically significant magnitude of changes to the skeleton. As a matter of fact, it equated to nearly a three-fold increase in the risk of fracture for individuals who lost 5 percent or more weight over 40 years.

Scientists have long been stressing the importance of taking some helpful measures for bone health. These steps are quite helpful in warding off diseases affecting the bones.

Some studies reveal that during menopause, there is usually a decrease in the levels of estradiol. This has been found to be a contributor to higher levels of oxidative stress in the body. It is also worth realizing that such oxidative stress sets women up for the bone loss.

Medicinal ingredients like Rhodiola rosea may be helpful for bone health and protection. Rhodiola has been found to contain a powerful antioxidant called salidroside, which works within the bone itself.

Scientists say that it aids in protecting bone-forming cells from the detrimental effects of oxidative stress. Further, salidroside has also long been found to offer a number of health benefits, especially for bone health.

One of its mechanisms is to produce stress-busting effects, and this is due to its adaptogenic properties. Researchers suggest it could also aid in reducing stress on the bones.

Supplements like Divine Bounty Rhodiola Rosea may work wonders in delivering the therapeutic goodness of this natural remedy (www.amazon.com/Rhodiola-Rosea-Supplement-Siberian-Salidroside/dp/B07416DYPB).
