(Newswire.net — September 17, 2021) Orlando, FL — Alcoholics have long been reputed to be at the increased risk of various health issues. In a new study, the risk of health issues appears to persist even after they stop drinking alcohol.

A report was published in the August issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.

In this research, it has been found that former drinkers tend to have sleep problems that persist for months or even years. They had problems falling and staying asleep.

This is according to University of Calgary psychologist Shawn Currie and his team who carried out the research.

The investigators looked into 63 recovering alcoholics who were all sober for a minimum of one month but less than five years.

“We looked at sleep problems in a different way,” Currie says.

“Most of the research prior to this study has people spend one night in a sleep lab. We used portable sleep monitors — they look like a wristwatch — and we did it for seven nights,” he adds.

The investigators found the subjects tended to be short sleepers, which means they slept less than six hours a night.

It is worth realizing that today, it is not only former drinkers who suffer from sleep issues but people of any age and walks of life.

Experts have long been strongly stressing the importance of taking the right measures in promoting better sleep. There are nutrients like magnesium scientists found helpful in achieving better sleep.

Scientists say that this macromineral aids in the hundreds of processes inside the human body. It helps the mind and body and this is how it makes falling asleep easy.

In some studies, it has been found that its relaxing effects may be due to its ability to regulate melatonin production. It is worth noting melatonin is a hormone that guides the sleep-wake cycle of the body.

It has further been suggested that magnesium seems to enhance the brain levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is a brain messenger with calming effects.

Previous studies have long warned that insufficiency in the levels of magnesium may be associated with troubled sleep as well as insomnia.

There are various studies revealing the therapeutic goodness of this mineral, especially in enhancing the ability of the body to have adequate sleep. It is also linked with a myriad of health benefits.

Some products like Purest Vantage Magnesium Oil have been found to aid in delivering the disease-fighting and sleep-enhancing effects of this mineral. This spray has been gaining overwhelming popularity in the global market today (http://amazon.com/Pure-Magnesium-Oil-Spray-Transdermal/dp/B011T9TASI ).
