Urine Acid, Diet May Influence Susceptibility to UTIs

(Newswire.net — October 4, 2021) Orlando, FL — Urinary tract infections (UTIs) affect millions of people today. The scientific community continues to carry out studies investigating the various aspects of this infection.

One study was carried out and published in The Journal of Biological Chemistry.

In this research, it has been found that urine acidity may have something to do with how well bacteria can actually grow in the urinary tract. Aside from the acidity of the urine, the same results were also found in the presence of small molecules related to diet.

It was carried out by researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

The findings may have implications in the treatment of urinary tract infections. It is worth noting that UTIs are triggered by a strain of bacteria called E.coli.

“Many physicians can tell you that they see patients who are particularly susceptible to urinary tract infections,” said senior author Jeffrey P. Henderson, MD, Ph.D., an assistant professor of medicine.

“We often don’t know why certain people seem to be prone to recurrent UTIs. For a long time, we had inexpensive antibiotics that worked really well for this. But over the last 10-15 years, we have seen a huge jump in bacterial infections that are resistant to many of these drugs.”

Henderson and his team, including first author Robin R. Shields-Cutler, a graduate student in Henderson’s lab, looked into how the body fights bacterial infections naturally.

In this research, they cultured E.coli in urine samples from healthy study volunteers. The researchers were also able to note a major difference in how well individual urine samples could exhibit a key immune protein in limiting bacterial growth.

More studies are still being carried out to look into the remedies potentially helpful in reducing the odds of infection. It is important to realize that when UTI is not properly addressed, it could lead to a potentially deadly situation.

Scientists have also been looking into the remedies potentially helpful in fighting UTIs. It is worth keeping in mind that there are all-natural ingredients like cranberry juice being widely used by UTI sufferers today.

Cranberry juice contains a therapeutic sugar called D-mannose, which eliminates the risk of infection and its recurrence.

Today, there are many who turn to the use of formulas like Divine Bounty D-mannose. This amazing formula is made carefully in an FDA-inspected facility in the U.S.

It is widely used by individuals who suffer from UTIs and is thought to be superior to other brands. It even contains cranberry and dandelion extracts, which are found particularly helpful against UTIs (http://www.amazon.com/D-Mannose-600mg-Cranberry-Dandelion-Extract/dp/B01LX5KGF0)
