(Newswire.net — October 26, 2021) Orlando, FL — B vitamins have long been reputed to significantly help fight certain diseases. Their relevance can be dangerous to ignore as their deficiencies are associated with certain undesirable health consequences.

A study has found that consumption of vitamins B2 and B6 is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.

It was carried out by Kim V.E. Braun, Ph.D., a postdoctoral researcher at Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands, and colleagues.

They looked into certain pre-existing food and supplemental vitamin intake data gathered every 2 to 4 years from 8,141 health professionals with diabetes. They were able to see that the highest consumption of vitamin B2 foods and supplements led to a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes by 10 percent.

Further, those who consumed the highest amounts of foods and supplements with vitamin B6 had a decreased odds of type 2 diabetes by 11 percent.

The investigators further note that vitamin B12 was more likely to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes when consumed in a supplement form.

Another study was carried out and it showed that the order in which food is eaten may influence the onset of diabetes.

It was performed by Christiani Henry, MSc, Ph.D., of the Singapore Institutes for Clinical Sciences, and colleagues.

The investigators observed 16 healthy patients as they ate green leafy vegetables, rice, and chicken in various orders. They were able to see that the order of food consumption may aid in preventing the transition from prediabetes to diabetes.

The findings of both studies were presented at Nutrition 2019.

This interesting study is just one of the many that demonstrate the therapeutic benefits of B vitamins, especially when it comes to diabetes.

Health authorities have long warned that this condition affects more than 425 million individuals on a global scale. It is not just notoriously known for its high prevalence, but also its incurability.

There are medications available for this condition, but scientists continue to carry out more studies to look into the potentially helpful remedies for sufferers.

B vitamins are undeniably therapeutic, and they have been found to aid in a variety of functions and processes inside the body. They can be obtained through the consumption of certain foods, but there are also supplements available.
