Scientists Reveal a Novel Technique to Combat Arthritis Pain

(Newswire.net — November 17, 2021) Orlando, FL — Arthritis is one of the incurable conditions that reduce the quality of life of millions of people around the globe. This disease is being widely studied nowadays, especially among researchers who are trying to look for its cure.

A study was carried out and presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

In this research, it has been found that a novel outpatient procedure provides lasting pain relief for individuals with moderate to severe arthritis in their hip and shoulder joints. The investigators suggest that it could pave the way to lessening dependency on addictive opiates.

It is worth noting that individuals with moderate to severe pain linked with osteoarthritis often have limited treatment options. These include the common approaches like injections of anesthetic and corticosteroids applied to the affected joints.

While they may be helpful, it is worth noting that they actually grow less effective as arthritis progresses and worsens.

“Usually, over time patients become less responsive to these injections,” said Felix M. Gonzalez, M.D.,

Gonzalez is from the Radiology Department at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

“The first anesthetic-corticosteroid injection may provide six months of pain relief, the second may last three months, and the third may last only a month. Gradually, the degree of pain relief becomes nonsignificant,” he added.

The possibility of joint replacement surgery actually increases without pain relief. However, it is also worth noting that many patients are actually considered to be ineligible for surgery due to health reasons.

There are also many others who opt not to go through the major operation. The use of opiate painkillers, which carry addiction risks, is the most viable option for them.

Studies investigating the relevance of managing inflammation levels for arthritis control continue to increase. Interestingly, some nutrients like B vitamins are actually found beneficial for arthritis pain relief.

These nutrients have long been researched due to their strong medicinal benefits. They are so important that their deficiencies are even associated with the development of certain health issues.

There are highly-recommended supplements like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex that may be helpful in delivering the disease-fighting benefits of these nutrients.
