(Newswire.net — November 11, 2021) —

Recently, Microsoft Announced to End Support OneDrive on Windows 7 & 8. In a blog post, the business stated that it will cease releasing updates on January 1, 2022, in order to “focus resources on new technologies and OS and to give consumers the most up-to-date and secure experience.”

As a result, OneDrive desktop apps running on these operating systems will no longer sync to the cloud starting on March 1, 2022. Personal files will no longer sync after the last date, according to Microsoft, and users would have to upload or access them directly on OneDrive for the web from laptops or PCs running an older version of Windows, the company says.

As a result, while you will still be able to use OneDrive using a web browser after March 1, 2022, the dedicated app would no longer be available.

When was the announcement made?

The announcement by Microsoft of the end of support for these older systems is not surprising given the company’s desire to drive consumers onto the more recent Windows 11 or even Windows 10 operating systems. On the contrary, the site recommends that customers upgrade to the most recent operating systems in order to prevent service outages.

The fact that Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are now in extended support till January 10, 2023, should not be overlooked. On January 12, 2016, Microsoft formally announced that it will no longer support Windows 8.

Is your device compatible with Windows 11?

Here’s how to determine whether your device is compatible with Windows 11.

Use the PC Health Check app to determine if your device is qualified for the programme. This will determine whether or not the device fulfils the standards of Microsoft for the next version of Windows.

Now, navigate to the Windows Update settings, which can be found under Update & Security > Windows Update, and choose “Check for updates” to begin the process.

If your device is eligible for the upgrade and the upgrade is ready, you will be presented with the opportunity to download and install it. If you are ready to begin installing Windows 11, you can simply pick Download and install from the Start menu.

Always bear in mind that many older devices will most likely not be compatible with the Windows 11 upgrade. The following are the minimum requirements: a 64-bit CPU, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, UEFI secure boot, and TPM 2.0 (trusted platform module) 2.

In a nutshell

That means that if your windows is not updated, you’ll probably need to update it first in order to access the Onedrive desktop application. Even though the support is extended till January 23, 2023, we think it’s time for you to upgrade your windows to get the best features of Microsoft and avoid any forthcoming hassle in the future.
