Excessive Sugar May Lead to Early Death Not Due to Obesity

(Newswire.net — December 15, 2021) Orlando, FL — Health authorities have long been warning against sugar intake, especially when done excessively which is linked with the increased odds of certain diseases.

According to experts, obesity is closely linked with excessive sugar consumption. However, it is important to note that in a study, death due to sugar intake was not linked with obesity.

The researchers from MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences, UK carried out a study, which was published in the Cell Metabolism journal.

The findings of this interesting research have revealed that diets loaded with sugar have a detrimental effect on health independent of obesity. More specifically, the investigators have found that in fruit flies fed with a sugar-rich diet, their shortened survival is not due to their diabetic-like metabolic issues.

Scientists say that early death resulting from excessive sugar intake is linked with the buildup of uric acid, which is a natural waste product.

Sugar consumption has long been considered to be unhealthy, especially since it increases the odds of metabolic disorders, such as obesity and diabetes. It could also shorten lifespan by several years.

According to Dr. Helena Cochemé, just like humans, flies fed a high-sugar diet show many hallmarks of metabolic disease — for instance, they become fat and insulin resistant.

Dr.  Cochemé is the principal investigator of the study.

“Obesity and diabetes are known to increase mortality in humans, and so people always assumed that this was how excess sugar is damaging for survival in flies,” she adds.

Experts also stress that the same as salt, sugar leads to dehydration, and his thirst is an early symptom of diabetes and high blood sugar.

More studies are still underway to discover the undesirable effects of sugar inside the body. It is however interesting to note that not all types of sugar are harmful.

As a matter of fact, one called D-mannose has been found to be rather beneficial than detrimental to health. This therapeutic type of sugar can be found in cranberry and is widely researched due to the health benefits its consumption is linked with.

D-mannose is a popular remedy for infections like urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is found to bind with the E.coli bacteria, which are responsible for roughly 90 percent of all UTI cases.

Various research studies have shown that D-mannose use is linked with a myriad of health benefits. Formulas like Purest Vantage D-mannose could be an excellent source of this remedy (amazon.com/Mannose-Capsules-600mg-Per-Cap/dp/B071J35CP5).
