(Newswire.net — February 21, 2022) Orlando, FL — The scientific community has been carrying out studies affecting the brain, such as anxiety and Alzheimer’s disease. While these two conditions are totally different from each other, a study has shown a link between them.
This study was presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).
Its findings have linked anxiety with an increased rate of progression from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease.
It is important to keep in mind that around the globe, Alzheimer’s disease represents a major public health crisis. Since 2000, the number of deaths from the condition has more than doubled.
In the United States alone, it is the fifth-top cause of death among those over the age of 65 years.
According to experts, there is a number of Alzheimer’s disease sufferers who first experience mild cognitive impairment. This pertains to a decline in cognitive abilities like memory and thinking skills, which is more rapid than normally associated with aging.
It is important to keep in mind that anxiety has often been observed in individuals suffering from mild cognitive impairment. This is despite the fact that its role in the progression of the disease is not well understood.
According to the study senior author Maria Vittoria Spampinato, M.D., they know that volume loss in certain areas of the brain is a factor that predicts progression to Alzheimer’s disease.
Spampinato is a professor of radiology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston.
“In this study, we wanted to see if anxiety had an effect on brain structure, or if the effect of anxiety was independent of brain structure in favoring the progression of the disease,” she adds.
Dementia has long been a popular subject of research due to its high prevalence and incurability. This brain health issue continues to affect more and more people and reduce their overall quality of life and health.
Interestingly while there is no known cure yet for the condition, scientists found there are ways potentially helpful in warding it off. Some studies suggest that the use of all-natural ingredients like curcumin may be helpful.
This is a phytochemical that can be found in the deep yellow-orange spice called turmeric. It continues to be a popular choice among health-conscious individuals.
Scientists say that when ingested, curcumin exerts varying mechanisms to protect and enhance brain health. Its healing goodness may be obtained through the use of certain supplements, such as VitaBreeze Curcumin. (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00JA4TLTI/)
