(Newswire.net — May 2, 2022) Orlando, FL — Hypertension is undeniably common and continues to place many lives in jeopardy. Medications have long been found to be particularly helpful in managing this condition.
A study was carried out and presented in a Hot Line session at ESC Congress 2020.
In this study, it has been found that a pharmaceutical drug used in reducing blood pressure levels can also prevent strokes and heart attacks. This has been found to be also true even in those with normal blood pressure levels.
The principal investigator Professor of the study is Kazem Rahimi of the University of Oxford, UK.
“Greater drops in blood pressure with medication lead to greater reductions in the risk of heart attacks and strokes,” said Professor Rahimi.
“This holds true regardless of the starting blood pressure level, in people who previously had a heart attack or stroke, and in people who have never had heart disease,” he added.
Over the years, there have been controversies on whether pharmacological blood pressure lowering is equally useful in people with versus without a prior heart attack or stroke, or when blood pressure is below the threshold for hypertension.
This study is the largest and most detailed research ever carried out to look into these questions. Further, the researchers actually combined data on those who participated in a randomized clinical trial and performed a meta-analysis.
It particularly included 348,854 participants from 48 trials. The subjects were divided into two groups, namely those with a prior diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and those without.
In more than an average of four years of follow-up, it has been found that each 5 mmHg decrease in systolic blood pressure reduced the relative risk of major cardiovascular events by about 10 percent.
Further, the risk for ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, stroke, and death from cardiovascular disease was lessened by 13 percent, 7 percent, 14 percent, and 5 percent, respectively.
More studies are still being performed to look into the ways in fighting hypertension and reducing its rates. It is also worth realizing that in many studies, researchers have found that there are many all-natural ways to manage healthy blood pressure levels.
In addition to regularly engaging in physical activities and choosing the right foods to consume regularly, there are also all-natural remedies like the use of VitaBreeze Curcumin found to be helpful.
This phytochemical called curcumin is loaded with a range of healing agents, and some of them are beneficial in fighting hypertension (amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
