(Newswire.net — May 3, 2022) Orlando, FL — Depression is undeniably prevalent today, and this is why more and more experts are carrying out studies to investigate it.

A study was published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.

This study was carried out at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.

In this research, it has been found there was a precipitous decline in binge drinking among adolescents in the United States.

In 2012, it has been discovered there was a sharp increase in depressive symptoms among American adolescents.

According to Katherine M. Keyes, Ph.D., comorbidity of depression and drinking is among the bedrocks of psychiatric epidemiology findings — until now.

Katherine M. Keyes is an associate professor of epidemiology at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health.

“Our results suggest that we need to be re-thinking the connections between mental health and alcohol among young people,” she added.

It is worth noting that in this study, data were obtained from the U.S. nationally representative Monitoring the Future surveys from 1991-to 2018 for 58,444 school-attending, 12th-grade adolescents.

Experts say that binge drinking was defined as having over five drinks during the past two weeks. Further, depressive symptom measurement was based on agreeing or disagreeing with statements that life is meaningless or hopeless.

This is just one of the studies revealing a certain aspect of depression. Today, more and more experts are performing studies to explore more the ways to combat this condition.

Certain lifestyle and dietary improvements have scientifically been found to be helpful in warding off depression. These include the use of certain B vitamins, which are found to play significant roles in brain health.

According to researchers, B12 and some other B vitamins play a role in the production of certain brain chemicals that have effects on mood and some other brain functions.

In some studies, it has been found that reduced levels of B12 and other B vitamins like folate and B6 are linked with depression. This means that ensuring sufficient B vitamin levels is vital in potentially reducing the odds of certain mental health issues.

Sufficient consumption of B vitamins has long been found to be vital in addressing various health issues.

These nutrients can be obtained from food, but there are also helpful supplements available that consumers can turn to. One is Purest Vantage Vitamin B Complex, which continues to gain more positive reviews from consumers.
