Research Reveals the Impacts of Sleep on Learning

(Newswire.net — May 19, 2022) Orlando, FL — Various research studies have highlighted the effects of sleep on brain health and function. Time and again it’s been recommended to get adequate sleep to protect the brain from deterioration.

A study has actually shown that getting some sleep in between study sessions makes recalling what’s been studied and relearning what’s forgotten easier, even after 6 months.

The findings of this research were published in Psychological Science, which is a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.

“Our results suggest that interleaving sleep between practice sessions leads to a twofold advantage, reducing the time spent relearning and ensuring a much better long-term retention than practice alone,” explains psychological scientist Stephanie Mazza of the University of Lyon.

“Previous research suggested that sleeping after learning is definitely a good strategy, but now we show that sleeping between two learning sessions greatly improves such a strategy.”

Studies have revealed that both repeated practice and sleep have the ability to enhance memory. However, there is little research determining how repetition and sleep influence memory when they are combined.

In this research, Mazza and colleagues hypothesized that sleeping in between study sessions might increase relearning process efficiency, lessening the effort required to commit information to memory.

The investigators randomly assigned a total of 40 French adults to either a “sleep” group or a “wake” group.

“Memories that were not explicitly accessible at the beginning of relearning appeared to have been transformed by sleep in some way,” says Mazza.

“Such transformation allowed subjects to re-encode information faster and to save time during the relearning session.”

The researchers also noted that the memory boost obtained from sleeping between sessions appeared to last over time.

Health experts continue to stress the relevance of taking some measures helpful in enhancing sleep.

It is worth keeping in mind that there are actually kitchen ingredients found to be helpful, and one is lion’s mane. This widely studied ingredient is associated with a myriad of health benefits and is taken through supplementation.

This amazing formula has anti-inflammatory, cognitive-decline-fighting, nerve repairing, neuroprotective, cardiovascular-health enhancing, blood-pressure-lowering, immunity-boosting, cholesterol-regulating, and weight management properties.

A Japanese study involving college students with notoriously poor sleep habits has shown lion’s mane help reduce insomnia. Its brain health benefits are found to be behind its sleep health effect and ability to combat irritability and fatigue.

To benefit from the healing goodness of this remedy, it is wise to use extra-strength formulas like Divine Bounty Lion’s Mane (https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Lions-Mane-Mushroom-Capsules/dp/B07LGR1KN7).
