High Blood Pressure Is Associated With Brain Damage Risk, Experts Warn

(Newswire.net — May 23, 2022) Orlando, FL — Hypertension is one of the common conditions that experts strongly warn against. It is worth keeping in mind that this ailment is a risk factor for heart disease.

Today, scientists increasingly investigate the impacts of having high blood pressure levels.

One study was carried out and published in the European Heart Journal.

It was carried out by Dr. Karolina Wartolowska, a clinical research fellow at the Centre for Prevention of Stroke and Dementia, University of Oxford, UK.

The researchers were trying to look for the “white matter hyperintensities,” which pertain to damage in the brain. It is worth noting that the WNH was observed on the MRI brain scans as brighter regions.

Experts also revealed they indicate small blood vessel damage in the brain that actually goes up not just with the blood pressure but also with age. They also revealed there is a link between WMH and the increased odds of dementia, depression, stroke, physical disabilities, and a decline in thinking abilities.

In this research, it has been found that there is an association between blood pressure levels that are higher than normal and more extensive brain damage in the elderly. The study has particularly revealed a strong link between diastolic blood pressure before the age of 50 and brain damage in later life.

It involved 37,041 participants enrolled in UK Biobank, which is a large group of people recruited from the general population aged between 40 and 69 years.

The investigators in this research gathered medical information, including MRI brain scans from these subjects.

They also divided the WMH volume by the total volume of white matter in the brain. This is for the purpose of comparing the volume of white matter hyperintensities between people and making adjustments in the analysis as people’s brains vary slightly in size.

“In that way, we could analyze the WMH load, which is the proportion of the WMH volume to the total volume of white matter,” said DrWartolowska.

Today, more and more researchers are investigating hypertension and brain health issues. There are studies suggesting that some nutrients like B vitamins work wonders in helping manage blood pressure levels.

Formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex could be an excellent choice for individuals who want to benefit from the healing goodness of these nutrients. This amazing formula is made carefully in an FDA-inspected facility in the U.S.
