Research Highlights Impacts of Asthma on COVID-19 Severity

(Newswire.net — July 22, 2022) Orlando, FL — Health authorities have been warning against the dangerous health outcomes of individuals with chronic conditions when contracting Covid-19.

While having conditions like heart disease or diabetes increase Covid-19 complications, it appears that asthma doesn’t produce the same effects.

A team of Rutgers researchers carried out a study, which was published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

In this research, the investigators found asthma did not appear to increase Covid-19 severity.

“Older age and conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, and obesity are reported risk factors for the development and progression of COVID-19,” said Reynold A. Panettieri Jr.,

Panettieri is a pulmonary critical care physician and director of the Rutgers Institute for Translational Medicine and Science and co-author of the paper.

“However, people with asthma — even those with diminished lung function who are being treated to manage asthmatic inflammation — seem to be no worse affected by SARS-CoV-2 than a non-asthmatic person. There is limited data as to why this is the case — if it is physiological or a result of the treatment to manage the inflammation.”

Covid-19 has been found to be particularly dangerous to vulnerable populations, such as those with heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and some respiratory health issues.

The pandemic has made individuals with asthma more vigilant about social distancing, which enhances disease control. This is due to the fact that those who self-quarantine are not exposed to seasonal triggers, which include allergens or respiratory viruses.

Research has also shown people have become more attentive to their asthma drug intake during the pandemic.

It is worth noting corticosteroids are commonly utilized in fighting asthma attacks. Inhaled corticosteroids may lessen the ability of the virus to establish an infection. However, it is also important to stress that steroids may lessen the immune response of the body.

They may also worsen the system’s inflammatory response.

More studies are still underway to look into the link between asthma and Covid-19. Today, health authorities are increasingly recommending some measures helpful in boosting the body’s defenses.

Having a strong immunity is vital in fighting the severe impacts of Covid-19. The good news is that there are actually many ways to do this, such as managing stress levels, engaging in physical activities, and following a healthy diet.

There are even nutrients like B vitamins strongly recommended due to their immunity-boosting effects. These nutrients may be obtained through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex.

It contains Choline, Pantothenic acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, and vitamin B6 (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07414752B).
