Research Highlights a New Weapon Against Resistance Bacteria

He stresses the relevance of being at the forefront of the development as the list of resistant bacteria continues to grow. This means that there would be reductions in the treatment options. It is therefore vital to develop alternatives useful when the current antibiotics no longer work.

“Resistance can occur very quickly, and then it’s essential that we’re ready,” he says.

The findings of this interesting research were published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. 

According to experts, the substance combats both resistant enterococcus, streptococcus, and staphylococcus bacteria. 

Such a substance and the pleuromutilin class do this through certain unique mechanisms of action, which also produces resistance to arise at a very slow pace. It is worth noting that the substance has actually been tested on bacteria and human cells.

It is worth keeping in mind that the World Health Organization (WHO) has already presented an action plan designed to halt the spread of resistance.
