(Newswire.net — August 17, 2022) Orlando, FL — Conditions like restless leg syndrome produce uncomfortable symptoms. In a study, it appears to actually produce more than just discomfort.

A study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open.

In this research carried out by Penn State scientists, it has been found that RLS is linked with almost a tripled risk of self-harm and suicide.

The investigators used Big Data and found that such risk of self-harm and suicide was 2.7-fold higher.

In the United States, suicide rates are skyrocketing. Due to the findings of this study, researchers suggest that physicians should look into the mental health of individuals with RLS.

According to Xiang Gao, their study suggests that restless legs syndrome isn’t just connected to physical conditions, but to mental health, as well.

Gao is an associate professor of nutritional sciences and director of the Nutritional Epidemiology Lab at Penn State.

It is worth realizing that RLS affects roughly five percent of the population in the United States. This condition causes an uncomfortable feeling in the legs, which produces an urge to move them, especially during the night.

It hasn’t been known exactly what causes RLS, but some previous studies have found a link between the condition and iron deficiency. This condition has also been previously linked with hypertension, depression, and thoughts of suicide.

Experts have long been carrying out studies to explore the various aspects of RLS. It is important to realize that certain remedies have been found potentially helpful against the condition.

A macromineral called magnesium has been discovered by scientists to be helpful in certain cases of RLS. Increasing intake of magnesium can work wonders in fighting RLS caused by magnesium deficiency.

According to researchers, magnesium works in relaxing the muscles. This may be due to the calcium-blocking abilities of this mineral. It has been found to aid in regulating the nerves and muscles instead of letting calcium activate the nerves.

When there are low magnesium levels, calcium is unblocked and the nerves turn overactive. All of these factors can trigger muscle contractions.

In addition to its potential to aid in RLS, it is also worth mentioning that magnesium has also been associated with a range of healing effects. Today, experts strongly recommend increasing the intake of this mineral for preventive health purposes.

One supplement that could be helpful in delivering its healing benefits is Divine Bounty Magnesium Citrate. This formula is loaded with top-quality magnesium and is even equipped with citric acid which increases magnesium absorption inside the body (http://amazon.com/Divine-Bounty-Magnesium-Citrate-Supplement/dp/B01LYWPNY6).
