( — August 29, 2022) Orlando, FL — Health authorities have long been warning against certain sleep issues, which are linked with the increased odds of certain diseases. There have actually been many studies looking into the impacts of sleep on various aspects of health and even mortality.

A new analysis was carried out and published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.

It was carried out by the researchers at Mass Eye and Ear, a member hospital of Mass General Brigham.

The findings have shown a link in between sleep disorders and significantly higher rates of health care utilization. Experts say this conservatively leads in an additional $94.9 billion in costs each year to the United States health care system.

The researchers particularly found the number of medical visits and prescriptions filled were almost doubled in those with sleep disorders like sleep apnea and insomnia, compared to similar people without.

Further, it has been found that affected patients were also more prone to visiting the emergency department and have more comorbid medical conditions.

The researchers looked into the differences in health expenditures in similar patients with and without a sleep disorder diagnosis, which is determined by their ICD-10 diagnosis code.

It included data from a nationally-representative survey involving over 22,000 Americans called the 2018 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, which is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

They particularly found 5.6 percent of respondents had at least one sleep disorder, and this translated to an estimated 13.6 million U.S. adults.

It is worth noting that insomnia alone seems to affect 10 to 20 percent of the U.S. population, and they accumulated roughly $7,000 more in overall health care expenses per year compared to those without a sleep disorder.

The investigators further note that this equates to a conservative estimate of $94.9 billion in health care costs every year attributable to sleep disorders.

Health authorities have been increasingly warning that sleep inadequacy leads in undesirable health outcomes. It is important to take the measures helpful in enhancing sleep and these include the use of remedies like curcumin.

Curcumin use has been linked with sleep benefits, in addition to its disease-fighting effects. This therapeutic ingredient is obtained widely through the use of formulas like VitaBreeze Curcumin.
