Even Small Amounts of Antibiotics May Lead To Antibiotic Resistance

(Newswire.net — August 29, 2022) Orlando, FL — Antibiotic resistance has long been considered to be a growing public health threat. Scientists are increasingly carrying out studies to look into the different aspects of this health issue.

A new research from Uppsala University has revealed that even low concentrations of antibiotics can trigger high antibiotic resistance to develop in bacteria.

The findings of this interesting research were published in Nature Communications.

In this study, the investigators aimed at determining how prolonged but low exposure of antibiotics contributes to the development of bacterial antibiotic resistance.

It is worth noting that during a course of antibiotics, a high proportion of the antibiotic dose is actually excreted in the urine in active, unchanged form. It then spreads into watercourses, lakes and soil in the wastewater.

These environments, consequently, may have low levels of antibiotics. In certain areas of the large, large quantities of antibiotics are actually utilized in meat production and aquaculture.

Small doses of antibiotics are also used in animal feed to make the animals grow faster. This means that the bacteria in their intestines are exposed to reduced levels of antibiotics over prolonged periods. Experts warn that these bacteria, in turn, reach humans via food ingested.

The investigators revealed that over time, exposure of bacteria to low doses of antibiotics can lead to resistance to antibiotic levels that were more than a thousand times higher than the initial level to which the bacteria were exposed to.

It has further been found that bacterial DNA mutations that trigger resistance are of a different type than if they have been exposed to high doses.

“The results are interesting because they show that the very low antibiotic concentrations present in many environments, too, can lead to a high degree of resistance and contribute to the problem of resistance,” says Professor Dan I Andersson, who headed the study.

More studies continue to warn against the catastrophic effects of antibiotic resistance. Today, there are experts who strongly recommend resorting to measures proven helpful in reducing the rates of this growing public health concern.

One is to avoid misuse or abuse of antibiotics, which are often resorted to as a treatment for urinary tract infections. There are all-natural remedies like Divine Bounty D-mannose found to be particularly useful in preventing and treating the infection.

There are many UTI sufferers who resort to the use of this remedy to get relief from symptoms. It is also being widely resorted to as a safer alternative to antibiotics.

Divine Bounty D-mannose is popularized by its high potency and purity. What makes it all the more beneficial is that it comes with a customer satisfaction guarantee, which makes every purchase risk-free (https://www.amazon.com/D-Mannose-600mg-Cranberry-Dandelion-Extract/dp/B01LX5KGF0).
