With the pandemic having exacerbated addiction concerns across Canada, Windsor, Ontario-based Aegis Health Group (226-946-1000) announces updates to its Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) services in the region.

The recent updates include several satellite addiction treatment clinics in Belle River, Amherstburg, Kingsville, Tilbury and Essex. This is in addition to Aegis Health Group’s flagship location at 1883 Turner Road, as well as their downtown location at 1083 Ouellette Avenue. The company has also launched, in collaboration with RE/ACT Windsor, a complex trauma recovery program, known as En Route, which offers free, weekly psychosocial support meetings at its 1883 Turner Road premises.

Aegis Health Group’s latest enhancements are in keeping with its philosophy of providing readily accessible addiction treatment services in an outpatient setting. The move comes as experts across Canada call for addictions, including Substance Use and Behavioural issues, to be recognized as a complex and pressing health issue that requires new approaches.

The Government of Canada recently announced $17 million in funding for the Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Misuse (CRISM) program. The Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, stated that the research should help to improve the quality of care for Canadians who are struggling with Substance Use Disorder.

With their two long-standing Windsor locations, and the recent addition of 5 satellite RAAM clinics, Aegis Health Group intends to provide more options for those with substance use problems in the wider Windsor region. The centres are OHIP covered and can be accessed without a referral or appointment, which the company hopes will remove several barriers for those in need of support.

Similarly, the new complex trauma recovery program is designed as an introductory psychosocial group support service that helps to undress underlying issues without a fee, and as such, removes barriers for clientele to access. Additionally, as with Aegis Health Group’s clinics, the En Route program is a drop-in service, and no prior bookings are required.

About Aegis Health Group:

Using a combination of pharmaceutical, counselling and medical support, Aegis Health Group aims to provide clients with evidence-based, individualized and trauma-informed treatment plans that improve chances for sustained addiction recovery. The company’s recent expansion is indicative of its successes in the field, with further updates expected in the coming months.

A company representative recently stated: “At Aegis Health, our multidisciplinary team of practitioners specializes in the treatment of addictions of all kinds, including Substance-Use Disorders and Behavioural Addictions. We provide a team-based approach to patient care with an emphasis on respect, encouragement and best practices.”
