(Newswire.net — October 27, 2022) Orlando, FL — Studies looking into the various aspects of antibiotic resistance continue to pile up. It is worth noting that today, it is considered by experts to be a major global health threat.
Research warns that surfers are at increased odds of having antibiotic resistant-bacteria in the gut. More particularly, bodyboarders and regular surfers are thrice more susceptible to having antibiotic-resistant E. coli in their guts than non-surfers.
In this Beach Bums study carried out by the University of Exeter, the researchers asked 300 people to take rectal swabs. It is worth noting that half of them regularly surf the UK’s coastline. Surfers were found to swallow ten times more sea water than sea swimmers.
The investigators aimed at determining whether that made them more susceptible to bacteria that pollute seawater and whether those bacteria are resistant to an antibiotic.
The findings of this interesting study were published in the Environmental International journal.
The researchers compared fecal samples from surfers and non-surfers to evaluate whether their guts contained E. coli bacteria, which were able to grow in the presence of cefotaxime.
It is worth noting cefotaxime is a commonly used and clinically important antibiotic that has previously been prescribed to kill off these bacteria. However, some of them have acquired genes that enable them to survive this treatment.
It has been found that 9 percent or 13 out of 143 of surfers were colonized by these resistant bacteria, compared to just four of 130 or 3 percent of non-surfers swabbed. This has led researchers to suggest that bacteria would continue to grow despite cefotaxime being administered.
“Antimicrobial resistance has been globally recognized as one of the greatest health challenges of our time, and there is now an increasing focus on how resistance can be spread through our natural environments,” said Dr. Anne Leonard, of the University of Exeter Medical School, who led the research.
“We urgently need to know more about how humans are exposed to these bacteria and how they colonize our guts. This research is the first of its kind to identify an association between surfing and gut colonization by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.”
An increasing number of studies reveal that the use of an all-natural remedy called D-mannose may be helpful against antibiotic resistance. It can help lessen the need for antibiotics and the risk of drug misuse or overuse.
Reaping the benefits of this remedy may be made through the use of superior strength and unique formulas like Divine Bounty D-mannose.
Every Vegetarian and easy-to-swallow capsule of this formula has been tested for safety and efficacy. It is accurately labeled and even pure and free from nasty ingredients such as lead, microbiological contaminants, bacteria, arsenic, mercury, and pesticides.
