(Newswire.net — November 7, 2022) Orlando, FL — Multiple research studies carried out over the years have shown the various aspects of heart health. It is important to remember that poor cardiovascular health has long been correlated with specific negative health outcomes and reduced quality of life.

A study now shows that heart disease may be detected through an eye examination. This new research from Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego Health was able to identify a potential new marker highlighting that cardiovascular disease may be present in a patient using an optical coherence tomography (OCT) scan.

It is worth noting that the OCT scan is a non-invasive diagnostic tool usually used in ophthalmology and optometry clinics to create images of the retina.

The findings of the study were published in EClinical Medicine by The Lancet.

“The eyes are a window into our health, and many diseases can manifest in the eye; cardiovascular disease is no exception,” said lead author Mathieu Bakhoum, MD, Ph.D., a physician-scientist and retina surgeon at UC San Diego Health.

“Ischemia, which is decreased blood flow caused by heart disease, can lead to inadequate blood flow to the eye and may cause cells in the retina to die, leaving behind a permanent mark. We termed this mark ‘retinal ischemic perivascular lesions,’ or RIPLs, and sought to determine if this finding could serve as a biomarker for cardiovascular disease.”

As part of the research, the investigating team reviewed the records of people who received a retinal OCT scan at UC San Diego Health from July 2014 to July 2019. The researchers have found that the higher number of RIPLs in the eye, the greater the risk for cardiovascular disease.

Health authorities have long been stressing the relevance of resorting to certain measures in protecting the heart. These include making certain dietary and lifestyle modifications, which are helpful in the treatment and prevention of the condition.

Some plant-based remedies like turmeric are also being studied today due to their heart health benefits. This is curcumin which is a phytochemical found in turmeric. Multiple research studies have demonstrated its intake may help reverse the various steps involved in the heart disease process.

Today, the healing goodness of this remedy is obtained widely through the use of superior-strength supplements like VitaBreeze Curcumin.

Using this formula may mean taking advantage of curcumin’s antiproliferative, antiviral, renoprotective, insulin-sensitizing, androgenic, antioxidant, anti-amyloidogenic, anti-cytotoxic, antibiotic, antimicrobial, anti-purulent, antitumor, immunomodulating, and anticatabolic agents (amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00JA4TLTI/)
