Research Reveals How Inadequate or Too Much Sleep Harms the Heart

(Newswire.net — November 18, 2022) Orlando, FL — Sleep has long been a subject of research due to its impacts on overall health. Some studies even suggest it could influence the well-being or protection of the cardiovascular system.

A study was carried out and presented at the American College of Cardiology’s Annual Scientific Session Together with the World Congress of Cardiology.

In this research, it has been found that those who sleep for seven to eight hours every night had significantly less severe stiffness in their arteries, compared to those who slept for longer or shorter periods of time.

This indicated that they had a reduced chance of developing heart disease or suffering a stroke. Even after taking into account the known risk factors for stroke or heart disease, those who slept less than six hours or more than eight hours every night had a significantly greater likelihood of having plaque buildup.

More specifically, there was an increase in the plaque buildup in the walls of their carotid arteries by 54 percent and 39 percent respectively, compared to those who had seven or eight hours of sleep.

“The message, based on our findings, is ‘sleep well, but not too well.’ Getting too little sleep appears bad for your health but too much seems to be harmful as well,” said Evangelos Oikonomou, MD.

Oikonomou is a consultant cardiologist and the study’s lead author.

It is worth noting that unlike age, genetics, or other heart disease risk factors, sleep habits can actually be adjusted. Even after the effects of established risk factors for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases, it has been found that both short and long sleep duration may serve as additional risk factors.

Examples of these risk factors are smoking, hypertension, diabetes, age, gender, obesity, high blood pressure, and even a history of coronary artery disease.

Researchers have been carrying out studies to look into the best ways to enhance sleep. It is always important to note that certain nutrients like B vitamins may be beneficial.

In various research studies carried out in the past, it has been found that the use of B vitamins is vital in maintaining overall health. Their deficiencies are even associated with the increased risk of certain symptoms and diseases.

Some studies suggest an intake of B vitamins led to sleep improvements. What makes these nutrients even more beneficial is that they could also produce cardiovascular health benefits.

Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex may be an excellent source of these nutrients.

It contains Choline, Pantothenic acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamin, and vitamin B6 (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07414752B).
