(Newswire.net — November 18, 2022) Orlando, FL — There are many studies nowadays that look into potentially useful techniques for protecting and enhancing brain health. Interestingly in addition to consuming healthy foods, experts also found certain activities may benefit the mind.

A review was published in the Brain Plasticity journal.

In this research, the investigators found that yoga has the ability to improve many of the brain structures and functions similar to what aerobic exercise provides benefits.

It is worth mentioning that for decades, it has long been found aerobic exercise has the ability to strengthen the brain. It also works in contributing to the growth of new neurons.

The researchers looked into 11 studies, five of which involved individuals without a background in yoga practice. They were made to engage in one or more yoga sessions every week over a period of 10 to 124 weeks.

They also compared the brain health of the participants at the start and end of the intervention.

According to Neha Gothe, from these 11 studies, they identified some brain regions that consistently come up, and they are surprisingly not very different from what is seen with exercise research.

Gothe is a University of Illinois kinesiology and community health professor and who spearheaded the research with Wayne State University psychology professor Jessica Damoiseaux.

Researchers increasingly carry out studies to investigate the various techniques found helpful in protecting and enhancing brain health. The good news is that many studies have found certain therapeutic compounds like resveratrol may be helpful.

According to researchers, this antioxidant can be found in chocolate, berries, peanuts, and grapes. Various studies have found that resveratrol exerts different mechanisms to benefit the brain.

In particular, it could be helpful in battling some of the world’s most common and incurable conditions like dementia. Some studies suggest that the use of this remedy works in delaying age-related cognitive decline. It even promotes cognitive function and may be particularly beneficial for memory retention.

A randomized controlled trial has shown that a year of high-dose resveratrol treatment enhanced cognitive health and function. In addition to being an antioxidant, resveratrol is also a strong anti-inflammatory.

There are actually many health benefits that resveratrol is found to produce. This is why today, it is not just being widely studied but is also used for preventive health purposes via supplementation.
