A Study Highlights a Novel Gene Linked With Male Infertility

(Newswire.net — December 7, 2022) Ste 177 Winnetka, IL, IL — Multiple research studies have shed light on the various aspects of infertility, including the one increasingly affecting men.

A study now highlights a novel gene associated with male infertility. This new gene has been found to control the completion of meiosis in spermatogenesis. It is, however, worth noting that the details of the mechanism inactivating gene expression involved in the meiotic program during spermatogenesis have remained unclarified.

Researchers from Kumamoto University believe that such findings may actually result in advancement in reproductive medicine. This may particularly include identifying causes for infertility from azoospermia or spermatogenic defects.

It is worth noting that a special type of cell division called Meiosis occurs in the ovaries and testes for the purpose of producing eggs and sperm. This process is made possible by lessening the number of chromosomes to half the original.

After the completion of meiosis, DNA remains to be highly condensed and even undergoes major morphological changes – characteristic of spermiogenesis.

Experts further reveal that such a process actually inactivates the expression of a number of genes that were formerly active in carrying out meiosis in spermiogenesis.

It was Professor Ishiguro’s group at Kumamoto University’s Institute of Molecular Embryology and Genetics (IMEG) that previously discovered MEIOSIS.

This is a gene that switches on meiosis and leads hundreds of genes involved in sperm and egg formation to activate simultaneously.

“This research is a follow-up to our discovery of MEIOSIN published in February of 2020 and reveals part of the function of a gene under the control of MEIOSIN whose function is still unknown,” said Dr. Yuki Takada, who led the study.

“Although these results were verified in mice, ZFP541 is also known to exist in humans. There are many cases of infertility in humans where the cause is unknown, but we expect that this result will contribute to the elucidation of the pathogenesis of infertility, especially those related to sperm dysplasia.”

Researchers have been highlighting certain measures proven to be helpful in fighting male infertility.

These include the use of an all-natural disease-fighting remedy called ashwagandha, which has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine. Intake of ashwagandha supplements has been found not just to increase testosterone levels, but also to benefit male fertility.

In taking advantage of the healing goodness of this remedy, it is wise to take into account the use of superior-strength supplements like NutraHerbals Ashwagandha.
