Research Warns Sleep Disruption Increased Premature Death Risk

(Newswire.net — December 13, 2022) Orlando, FL — Multiple research studies have looked into the impacts of sleep on overall health and disease protection. Some studies have shown it also influences longevity.

A study has particularly revealed a clear association in between the frequency and duration of unconscious wakefulness during night-time sleep and heightened odds of dying from medical conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels, and death from any cause, especially in women.

The findings of this interesting study, which involved 8001 men and women, were published in the European Heart Journal.

The researchers found that women who experienced unconscious wakefulness most frequently and for longer periods of time had almost doubled their risk of death from cardiovascular disease when compared to the risk in the general female population.

It is worth noting the findings were found during an average of between 6 and 11 years of follow-up. The investigators revealed that the link was less clear in men. Further, their cardiovascular death risk increased by just more than a quarter compared to the general male population.

Unconscious wakefulness is also called cortical arousal and is a normal part of sleep. It happens spontaneously and is also a part of the ability of the body to respond to potentially threatening situations.

When it happens, it usually leads to noise or obstructed breathing. There are triggers to watch out for, such as limb movements, pain, trauma, temperature and light can also be triggered.

“A common trigger for nocturnal arousals is obstructive sleep apnoea when breathing stops and the arousal system ensures the activation of our body to change our sleep position and to reopen the upper airway,” said Dominik Linz.

Linz an associate professor in the cardiology department at Maastricht University Medical Center (The Netherlands), explained:

“Another cause of arousal can be ‘noise pollution during the night by, for example, night-time aircraft noise. Depending on the strength of the arousal, a person might become consciously aware of the environment, but often that is not the case. Typically, people will feel exhausted and tired in the morning because of their sleep fragmentation but will not be aware of the individual arousals.”

There are many other studies revealing the impacts of sleep on health. It is important to keep in mind that sleep quality is essential for disease protection. There are sleep-boosting remedies available like the medicinal mushroom called lion’s mane.

It is obtained widely today through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty Lion’s Mane. (https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Lions-Mane-Mushroom-Capsules/dp/B07LGR1KN7).
