More Evidence Highlights Effects of Cranberry on UTI Prevention

These chemicals particularly work by affecting the surface properties of E.coli, which is the cause of about 85 percent of UTIs and 90 percent of cases of acute pyelonephritis.

In this research, Paola Pinzón-Arango, Yatao Liu, and Terri Camesano, from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Massachusetts, exposed the bacteria to either a light cranberry juice cocktail or cranberry PACs.

It has been found that longer exposure of bacteria to either cranberry juice or the PACS leads to a greater reduction in bacterial attachment.
