(Newswire.net — December 29, 2022) Orlando, FL — Adequate sleep and naps have long been linked with certain health benefits. While snoozing is generally thought to be a harmless activity, it appears that one study says otherwise.
Scientists reveal that long naps or snoozing for more than one hour could produce certain health risks.
It is worth noting that this study was presented at ESC Congress 2020.
“Daytime napping is common all over the world and is generally considered a healthy habit,” said study author Dr. Zhe Pan of Guangzhou Medical University, China.
“A common view is that napping improves performance and counteracts the negative consequences of ‘sleep debt’. Our study challenges these widely held opinions.”
This study summed up available evidence for the purpose of assessing the link between napping and the odds of all-cause death and cardiovascular disease.
In this research, there was a total of 313,651 subjects from more than 20 studies and some 39 percent of them took naps.
The findings have shown that long naps, or snoozing for more than 60 minutes, were linked with a 30 percent increased risk of all-cause death compared to no napping. Further, it also resulted in a 34 percent higher likelihood of cardiovascular disease.
There was a link between long naps and an elevated risk of mortality in those who slept more than six hours every night, and this occurred when night-time sleep was taken into account.
Overall, there was an association between naps of any length and a 19 percent elevated risk of death. Further, the researchers found the connection to be more pronounced in women, who had a greater odds of death with napping by 22 percent.
“The results suggest that shorter naps (especially those less than 30 to 45 minutes) might improve heart health in people who sleep insufficiently at night.”
Time and again researchers recommend getting adequate sleep as it is vital for disease protection. The bad news is that today, there are many people who suffer from sleep issues like insomnia. There are also those who get inadequate sleep a few times a week.
It is important to keep in mind that there are certain remedies found to be particularly helpful for sleep improvement. These include the medicinal mushroom called lion’s mane, which has long been linked with a myriad of health benefits.
Studies reveal its intake may produce sleep health benefits. It is obtained widely today through the use of extra-strength supplements like Divine Bounty Lion’s Mane (https://amazon.com/Organic-Lions-Mane-Mushroom-Capsules/dp/B07LGR1KN7).
