(Newswire.net — January 12, 2023) Orlando, FL — The American Urological Association estimated that 150 million people are affected with urinary tract infections (UTIs) annually on a global scale.  Researchers continue to carry out studies to look into the various aspects of the infection.

The Cedars-Sinai researchers have shown that blocking the action of interleukin 6 (IL-6), which is a protein that is part of the immune system, could aid in fighting delirium that often accompanies urinary tract infection (UTI) in elderly patients.

With this research, scientists could carry out clinical trials of IL-6 inhibitors in pursuit of a treatment for UTI-associated delirium in humans.

The findings of this research were published in the Journal of Neuroinflammation.

Urinary tract infections are an infection affecting the bladder and urethra that leads to urinary urgency and pain. It is found to be more common in older women and causes delirium in older individuals in general.

Experts warn strongly that it results in a sharp decline in mental abilities that triggers disoriented thinking.

“Up to one-third of elderly patients hospitalized with UTIs can experience some degree of confusion and reduced awareness of their surroundings,” said Shouri Lahiri, MD.

Lahiri is a director of the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit and Neurocritical Care Research at Cedars-Sinai and a senior author of the study.

“Delirium affects millions of patients a year in the U.S., contributing to longer hospital stays, long-term cognitive problems, and increased mortality. Delirium can be a tipping point from which patients never fully recover. This is well established. What is less well established is why this is happening.”

When the researchers treated some of the infected mice with antibodies, it led to the resolution of the delirium-like behavior in the animals. It is important to stress that such antibodies blocked the impacts of IL-6.

Multiple research studies have highlighted the techniques found to be particularly helpful in fighting UTIs. As the cases of antibiotic resistance continue to increase, more and more people are turning to all-natural remedies like D-mannose.

It is widely used as a safer alternative to antibiotics and is studied by researchers due to its UTI-fighting benefits. Once ingested, it works by binding with E.coli to reduce the risk of infection.

Formulas like Divine Bounty D-mannose are widely resorted to nowadays. It is worth noting Divine Bounty manufactures superior-quality and pure formulas that are also known for their high potency.

In addition to being highly potent and pure, Divine Bounty D-mannose is also popularized by the customer satisfaction guarantee it comes with (http://www.amazon.com/D-Mannose-600mg-Cranberry-Dandelion-Extract/dp/B01LX5KGF0).
