The new Sidama coffee is made from indigenous heirloom cultivars, and is roasted in small batches by local smallholder farmers.
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and is known for having some of the most dynamic coffee flavors in the world. There are between 6 and 10 thousand different types of coffee from Ethiopia, and they are distinguished by their region and altitude.
Boss Brew Coffee’s Sidama roast comes from the region where it is believed the coffee plant originated. It is grown in the highlands between 4920 and 7220 feet above sea level. This means that the beans have more time to gather nutrients from the soil, which can result in a unique flavor profile.
The coffee plants that grow indigenously to this area are known as heirloom varieties, due to their rich history of growing in a near-perfect natural environment. Coffee beans from the Sidama region are also known for their fruity flavors. This occurs because the beans are often dried while still contained within the cherry fruit of the coffee plant.
When the coffee beans are grown, they are hand-picked and sorted by the farmers, dried in raised beds, and roasted in small batches. Once they arrive in America, Boss Brew Coffee grinds the beans to order.
The Gourmet Ethiopian Sidama coffee may be purchased in 12oz, 1lb, 2lb, and 5lb bags. It is available as whole beans, or can be first ground in a coarse or fine grind. Prices start at $16.99 and range to $76.99.
Boss Brew Coffee curates and sells a wide selection of gourmet small batch coffee blends. Their website lists 43 varieties of both flavored and international coffee beans. They additionally offer complimentary US shipping.
According to a satisfied customer: “We enjoyed this roast as soon as we ground the beans. The whole house had that wonderful aromatic scent of fresh coffee. Very smooth cup, and we drink it black.”
