SurgiMac, a licensed dealer for PDI medical supplies, has announced that Sani-Cloth wipes have received approval from the US Environmental Protection Agency for their effectiveness against the C. Auris fungal pathogen.

Sani-Cloth wipes, manufactured by PDI and sold by SurgiMac, have been approved by the EPA as an effective disinfectant for surfaces potentially contaminated with the Candida Auris pathogen and announced as an option for fast-paced environments, or where surfaces need to be frequently disinfected.

Using Sani-Cloth wipes, C. Auris can be eliminated from most hard, non-porous surfaces within 2 minutes. The new announcement follows a rising number of infections caused by C. Auris over the past several years and a consensus among researchers that the pathogen is becoming resistant to common anti-fungal medications.

The announcement is part of a new strategy to combat the spread of C. Auris before it can cause infections, so healthcare providers can use anti-fungal medications as little as possible. While the pathogen has shown growing resistance to several medications, it has not shown growing resistance to surface disinfectants.

As an authorized dealer for Metrex products, SurgiMac also offers several other surface disinfectants that are approved by the EPA for C. Auris. These include CaviCide 1, CaviWipes 1, and Caviwipes Bleach. While all of these products are effective against C. Auris, they differ in the other pathogens they can eliminate, and the surfaces they are approved for.

PDI Sani-Cloth wipes are alcohol-based and bleach-free, making them suitable for use on most surfaces, including medical equipment. However, SurgiMac recommends clients still test a small patch in a less visible location, to ensure the high alcohol-content wipes do not cause any fading or damage.

According to the EPA, Sani-Cloth wipes can kill up to 30 varieties of microorganisms, within 2 minutes of contact. They function as bactericidal, tuberculocidal, and virucidal wipes, while also cleaning, deodorizing, and removing allergens.

Medical professionals can register with the company to access wholesale rates, locally manufactured surgical tools, and same-day shipping for orders placed before Noon, EST. Though SurgiMac deals primarily with clinics, hospitals, hospices, and dental practices, some of its products are also available for home, office, and school use.
