OpenUp Windows has updated its line of pass-through gas strut awning windows. Customers can now choose from a variety of glass options when customizing their order.
Included among the customization options is double-insulated tempered glass with UV protection, increasing the utility of the awning windows in sunny climates. The windows can be installed in commercial eateries and service areas, or used to extend indoor spaces in residential properties.

The update comes with summer well underway in Texas, which has one of the highest UV indices in the United States. Although normal windows will block the majority of UVB rays, UVA rays are still transmitted through the glass, and prolonged exposure to this type of UV radiation can cause premature skin aging and increase the risk of developing skin cancer.
As OpenUp is aware of the possible hazards of sun exposure, they provide customers with a number of glass options with UV protection, and these are suitable for locations such as the southern states. All of their standard awning windows come with an electrolytically applied hard coating, but clients can opt for double-silver and triple-silver coats. These types of soft coatings reflect long-wave radiation efficiently, decreasing the solar heat gain coefficient of an indoor space and slowing the rate at which it heats up.
Clients can also upgrade from standard thick glass to tempered double-insulated glass, which consists of two thin panels separated by less than an inch of empty space. This pocket of air acts as an extra layer of insulation, and OpenUp can fill this space with argon gas to further increase the insulating effect. Windows that will be exposed to water or extreme temperatures require additional considerations, and OpenUp offers options for these situations as well.
Each window is built using a unique combination of heavy extruded tubular aluminum and Accoya wood, and both materials contribute to the longevity and durability of the product. Aluminum and Accoya wood are also recyclable, making OpenUp’s windows completely renewable.
