What comes to mind when you think of Utah? Some people picture this state’s beautiful mountainside views. Others imagine the metropolitan hub of Salt Lake City or Park City, Utah, the home of the Sundance Film Festival. You might be unaware that Utah is also at the forefront of the kratom industry.

A Thriving Place for Industry and Small Businesses

Being a state with so much beautiful outdoor scenery, it’s no surprise Utah is also a central hub for companies in the outdoor recreation industry. What is surprising to some is that the Beehive State is also home to Goldman Sachs, Fidelity Investments, Overstock.com, Ancestry, and Qualtrics. Even still, the best asset may be the available pool of skilled workers who can bring business innovations to market with great success.

A state that weathered and emerged from the Great Recession better than most, Utah has been known as a great place to do business for over a decade. And, seemingly, the momentum hasn’t stopped since. It’s not just big business, either. The state is increasingly known as one of the best places to start and grow a small business.

Utah’s Roots as a Kratom-Friendly State

Always a state to welcome innovation, Utah is also widely known as one of the most kratom-friendly states in the U.S. Utah was the first state to pass the Kratom Consumer Protection Act (KCPA) in 2019.

The KCPA is legislation that varies slightly from state to state. However, its general goal is always to keep kratom safe and available for adults. Utah’s version of the KCPA states that:

  • Kratom must not contain added substances or synthetic ingredients.

  • Someone must be 18 years or older to purchase kratom.

  • Kratom vendors must register these ventures with the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food.

MIT45 and Its Connection to Utah

At the center of Utah’s love for innovation and the promise of kratom’s potential benefits, you’ll find MIT45. Co-founders Shawn Brady and Dalton Locke may have started their company in a warehouse in Long Beach in 2012, but once Brady got out of the trucking business and into the kratom business, it was an easy decision. By 2018, they knew they had to come back to Utah. There was too much family and too much of a business-friendly environment waiting for them. They set out on a mission to make the best kratom in the world and then spread the news. By 2022, the Digital Journal named MIT45 one of The Top 3 Most Innovative Companies in 2022. You’ll also find MIT45 proudly certified as one of the American Kratom Association’s Platinum vendors.

MIT45 also remains a driving force in keeping the kratom industry safe for companies and consumers. This company helped launch the American Kratom Association (AKA), the nation’s leader in pushing for a safe future for kratom, the people who use it, and the companies that provide it to others. The AKA also works to raise global awareness of pro-kratom information as this plant faces the spread of false information from detractors. With kratom being a valuable natural resource for many, the AKA additionally works to research harvesting and reforestation to protect and safely increase the supply of this plant worldwide.

An Optimistic Outlook for Kratom’s Future Nationwide

The pace of modern life can have anyone looking for more energy. College students, hard-working adults, and others use kratom as a potent and natural nootropic. A nootropic is a supplement or substance that improves your cognitive functions. People who enjoy nootropics typically use them to work at a faster pace or to enhance their creativity.

Another reason kratom remains so popular is due to its variety of colors, strains, and effects. If you prefer to unwind, red-veined kratom helps many with the stress relief you seek. Green-veined kratom strains provide a balance of energy and relief. However, almost everyone agrees that white-veined kratom is the best for enhanced energy and nootropic-like effects.

With continued research pointing to the many positive effects of kratom, many states have passed or are working to pass the KCPA. As of this writing, 11 states successfully passed a KCPA including recent wins in Florida and Texas.

The future for kratom looks bright. Many companies and consumers can owe part of kratom’s current success and popularity to Utah, MIT45, and the AKA. Leading the charge for positive kratom-related news is the rumor that a federal version of the KCPA will be introduced in Congress later this year.
