(Newswire.net — November 28, 2023) — Have you moved, or are you planning to? Well, there’s a lot of fun waiting in your new home, but first things first. You need to unpack those boxes and get rid of them. Some people enjoy organizing, while others hate it, wanting to return to their routine as soon as possible. Whichever team you’re on, you’ll need some tips on how to unpack better.

What Is Needed?

To pack and unpack efficiently, you need a few things. There are some tips by A Plus Moving Hawaii team:

  • Stickers. Plain ones are good for numbering. Colored ones will help you mark the importance of each box. For example, red for the most essential things and green for less urgent things. We also advise using stickers for fragile items if you transport dishes and glassware. Then the movers will be more careful.
  • Boxes. You will need different sizes, from small to large. They’re available on the Internet, wholesale and cheaper. Or you can ask in stores if they are ready to give it away for free. After use, dry the box and leave it for reuse, especially if you move frequently. If not, recycling is a way to go.
  • Air bubble film. It will protect glass and fragile objects. You can find it at any hardware store. We also recommend using stretch film to protect furniture and household appliances from scratches, dust, dirt, and moisture.
  • Scotch tape and scissors. The first is for packing boxes, the second vice versa. Do not hide these items far away.
  • Bags and packages. In addition to the boxes, we also need these guys. Polyethylene bags or bags of 40 liters (small size) and 100-120 liters (medium size) are suitable when transporting things. These are ordinary garbage bags with increased density (from 45 microns). Bags are used for packing clothes, shoes, curtains, pillows, blankets, blankets and other things. The container also protects against the effects of the environment and garbage, which will be there. After transportation, these bags can be used for other tasks.

Packing Things

This stage determines the entire process. You can combine the methods so the truck will leave faster and your apartment will not be clogged for weeks.

Pack the Essentials

Think about what you will do right after moving in and what you need. Usually, these are techniques, hygiene products, bedding, and kitchen utensils if you cook at home. Put these in a separate box and unpack it first.

Use the “By Room” Principle

Organize each box for a specific area. For example, pack towels, soap, paper, brush and toothpaste, a rug, shower curtain, etc., under the label “Bathroom.” You may need more than one box per room, in which case you can additionally number them by importance.

Start with the Furniture

If possible, move it in advance. Do the same with new ones. Plan their arrangement and install large pieces of furniture – wardrobe, bed, refrigerator, sofa. Smaller items are easier to assemble and rearrange, so save them for last. You understand where to put durable goods and decor when you have a complete picture.

Movers Services

Decide whether you will pay for transportation and unloading services. Usually, they just bring the furniture and things into the apartment, and you are responsible for arranging them. Additional services require an additional fee. If you plan to do everything yourself, the boxes should be of average weight and size. Or you may need help from friends.

If you have a lot of things, you will need several trips. In this case, the principle of sequence is also applicable – first things first. Or you can start with the far rooms and work your way out.

In the Nutshell

So, the most efficient way:

  • Arrange the boxes. Imagine that you’ve packed everything and used labeling to identify the boxes. Now arrange them according to the rooms where they will be placed. Next, organize the rooms individually, starting with the most important ones – the toilet, kitchen, and bedroom.
  • Create a cozy atmosphere. Turn on music, hang up family photos, and arrange interior trinkets. It will make your new home more pleasant and motivate you to continue.
  • Involve all family members. If you didn’t move alone, invite everyone to unpack. Everyone can organize their own space, which will speed up the process.
  • Take it one step at a time. No one can move in a day. Give yourself time, and if you are tired, postpone unpacking. The main thing is that the necessary items are easily accessible.

Unpacking is the first thing to do in a new home. It’s good if it brings positive emotions. The above methods will help you achieve this and avoid living among many boxes for too long.
