(Newswire.net — September 13, 2018) — So much attention is given to having the right equipment for specific types of training and fitness goals in the gym. But even more important is the type of flooring for specific training areas. With the right specialist flooring athletes, trainers and fitness enthusiasts can get even more from their workout than ever before.

With such a wide range of activities taking place in the gym to suit all customers preferred workout styles, it is important to get the gym flooring right, not only for a better work out, but a safer one too.

Set dedicated zones and adapt the flooring accordingly

Your first step when choosing gym flooring is to look at the type of activity taking place in the gym. Because the different workouts can mean very different requirements, it is best to design the gym with dedicated zones or areas.

For example, you will almost certainly need an area for strength training and free weights. Consider what you need most for this area. With heavy and medium weights being used you will need a floor that is highly durable and resistant to damage and able to endure the dropping of heavy weights.

You will also need something that has maximum impact absorption to reduce the noise and vibration so as not to disturb other gym goers. For example Extreme S & S flooring or for cross functional training Endurance designed flooring. The floor will take quite a beating in this area so having a floor that can reduce noise and withstand heavy use is vital, especially if on an upper floor.

By contrast the flooring in your cardio and cycling area will be very different. You won’t have the same requirements for impact absorption, but the floor will need to support all types of treadmills, rowers and exercise bikes and will need high resistance and anti-slip characteristics.

And don’t forget the more functional areas, such as high traffic corridors or wet areas. These won’t see the same intensity of use, but will have a high volume of footfall and so still need to be durable and easy to clean. Wet areas, in the showers or by the pool need to be designed to reduce potential loss of footing and also remain hygienic.

Even the equipment free zones need to be specialised

For your aerobic or group-X areas you will need a flooring that is non-slip, durable but that also allows for easy of movement across the floor. High aerobic or dance classes simply will not work if you introduce a rubber floor for example. Yet this is not the same as martial arts, where the participants are often barefoot and highly likely to fall to the floor regularly during training.

In using tatami flooring, you can ensure a reduced impact and excellent grip for the feet. This is vital for the safety of the participants for avoiding injury while practicing karate, judo or kung fu.

You also need to consider the comfort of holistic stretching exercises for the body and mind, such as balance exercises, meditation, yoga or tai chi. It is important for the muscles being worked to be kept warm and the participants comfortable during these slower and low impact exercises so you will likely want to consider some sort of thermal insulation in these areas that would not be welcome in other parts of the gym.

There are many companies dedicated to the manufacture and distribution of floors but among them, we would highlight PAVIGYM given its specialization in gym flooring solutions.
