(Newswire.net — April 4, 2019) — After Tump mentioned the ‘Green New Deal’, a climate change bill bought forward by Ocasio-Cortez, a crowd of his supporters started shouting the phrase ‘AOC sucks’ using the initials of the democrat.

The supporters, known as MAGA’s (Make America Great Again- one of Trump’s most notable slogans), later tweeted clips of the chant happily.

This scenario was not surprising, according to CNN, who suggests that ‘She’s replaced Hillary Clinton and even House speaker Nancy Pelosi as a favourite target.’ Ocasio-Cortez is now the preferred target to fire abuse out.

The practice of degrading women through speech is not a new thing for the republicans, least of all Trump. He has been known for repeatedly denigrating women of colour, and women in general, and has been accused multiple times of sexual assault.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has now responded to this chant. On the 30th of March this year, Ocasio-Cortez stated that Trump needs a woman to ‘vilify’. Now Hillary Clinton is no longer a rival, trump must fixate his hate on another woman. She also stated that ‘this is part of a pattern that the right and the far-right and, frankly, the President is consistent with.’

Trump is not the only one to be ‘vilifying’ Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Tucker Carlson, a host of Fox News, claimed that the democrat was a ‘moron’ and ‘nasty’.

In a brash and rude statement, Carlson said ‘So it’s official. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a moron and nasty and more self-righteous than any televangelist who ever preached a sermon on cable access. She’s not impressive, she’s awful,’ he continued. What is perhaps most interesting about his opinion is that Carlson later agreed with almost all of Ocasio-Cortez’s views on the US economy.

Why do republicans hate AOC?

Despite the republicans love to hate Ocasio-Cortez. Perhaps this is due to her complete deviation from many of the typical republican norms. She is young, Latina, working class and a woman. Some critics have gone so far to suggest that republicans actually fear Ocasio-Cortez because she is dramatically trying to change and overturn the rigid structure of congress.

Caroline Heldman, a gender and politics professor at Occidental College stated that ‘She doesn’t just challenge the patriarchy, she’s challenging the race, class, and gender hierarchies all at once, as well as the capitalist system that requires member of Congress be wealthy before they get there.’

Moreover, despite a lot of republican hate, Ocasio-Cortez has a massive social media following, and is favored by many.
