Five things to see at Colosseum

The Colosseum is such a grand monument in Rome and has the heart of all Roman people. If you have a plan to visit the grand colosseum, then you must explore the following five things at the colosseum:-

  1. The base of the Colossal statue of Nero

The base of the Colossal statue of Nero is in front of the Colosseum and to the right across the Colosseum metro station.  You’ll notice a plaque reading “Area Del Basamento del Colosso di Nerone”.  It was a huge structure that measured, including the base, 106.5 feet.

  2. The outer ring

The very first thing you’ll notice when you get closer to the colosseum is multiple rings that support the arches. The outer rings are clearly visible from the front side of the metro station. Now, only half of the ring is remaining. During the massive earthquake of 1329, the half-ring was badly damaged. The remaining outer ring that is still present, has proof of the grandeur of the Roman Colosseum.

  3. Flavian Amphitheater Plaque

Remember one thing, the Colosseum is the only nickname of the monument. Flavian Amphitheatre is the actual name of the monument. You can see the plaque attached to the central ring of the colosseum directly facing the Venus Temple.

  4. Ludus Magnus

King Domitian built the Ludus Magnus. Ludus Magnus was a gladiator training school in the empire. It was just across from the Colosseum on Via di San Giovanni in Laterano. During ancient times, it was used as a place where all slaves lived. It has various cells for slaves and an underground tunnel that connects to the colosseum directly.

  5. The Cross

Inside the Colosseum premise, the cross sign of Jesu Christ was installed in 2000, in the memory of martyred Christians. The huge cross sign is the chief attraction point in the Roman Colosseum.
