(Newswire.net — May 13, 2016) —Daljinder Kaur, 72 and her husband, Mohinder Singh Gill, a 79 year old farmer, became parents to a baby boy last month, following a 2 year fertility treatment at a northern Indian clinic.

The couple were not able to afford the pricey treatment earlier in life, but two years ago Mohinder Singh Gill got a piece of family land and the money for the treatment. The two had adopted a boy in the ’80s, but he went on to study in the U.S. and never came back.

“I feel blessed to be able to hold my own baby. I had lost hope of becoming a mother ever,” Kaur told the AFP. She added that her life is not empty anymore, and that she is not not to old to become a mother.

The couple have been married for 46 years, and had completely lost hope of becoming parents. They live in Amritsar,a city  in the northwestern Indian state of Punjab, not far from the border with Pakistan.

Kaur said that in that part of India infertility is seen as a curse from God. A person who is infertile is not given a piece of land or any property by their father and is faced with ridicule.

“God heard our prayers. My life feels complete now. I am looking after the baby all by myself. I feel so full of energy. My husband is also very caring and helps me as much as he can,” said the first-time mom.

The baby boy, named Arman, was born healthy and strong and weighing 4.4lb.

Doctor Anurag Bishnoi, the fertility clinic owner, explained that he was skeptical in the beginning, but tests had shown that Kaur was able to get pregnant, endure all nine months and give birth.

At first, the clinic owner first tried to avoid this case, being concerned about the woman’s age, and the fact that she looked frail, but after the amazing test results came back, the doctor decided to help the older woman have a baby.

The new parents are very happy, but have been asked what will happen with the child after their deaths. The first-time parents have relatives who are ready to help to take care of the baby. The father, Mohinder Singh Gill said that he and his wife believe in God, and he will take care of Arman after their death.

This is not the first case that a senior in India gave a birth. In 2008. A 72-year old woman gave birth to twins.
