(Newswire.net — July 23, 2016) — The 25-page document released by the US-based Atlantic Council, not only says that Poland should be prepared for a Russian invasion that can happen at any moment, but gives instructions on which targets in Russia, Poland should aim for, Russia Today reports.
Stating that Russia is unpredictable and prepared to attack all the Baltic States, the document called ‘Arming for Deterrence’, lists preferable targets such as the city of Kaliningrad, the Metro infrastructure in Moscow, talks about launching a cyber attack on the Russia Today news agency, and shutting down the St. Petersburg power network
The document warns that “even if Moscow currently has no immediate intent to challenge NATO directly, this may unexpectedly change overnight.” The document further warns that possible Russian aggression can happen at any moment, and it can be “implemented with great speed”, and as a result NATO has decided to help Poland straighten its military. One of the ways to do so is to accept Poland into NATO, and instal a defense missile shield that, of course, can also act as an offensive weapon.
The council warns that anything could trigger a Russian invasion, from NATO being “distracted by another crisis”, to Moscow’s “misperception of NATO’s activities and a miscalculation of the Alliance’s resolve.”
According to the report, the Kremlin is not even trying to conceal its intention of invading the Baltic States, however, the report does not disclose any information on when or which officials from the Russian Federation stated such claims, while western media reports that the Russian president, Putin, said once that given current NATO operations along the Russian Federation borders, World War III is inevitable and will be started by the US.
“Russia does not wish for the chaos to spread, does not want war, and has no intention of starting one. However, today Russia sees the outbreak of global war as almost inevitable, is prepared for it, and is continuing to prepare for it,” Mr Putin said, repeating that Russia doesn’t want a war but it not does fear it.
The ‘Arming for Deterrence’ document states that Poland has a great role in reaching targets within the Federation as it is near Russia.
“[NATO] force [in Poland] is not required to win the war, but it must be able to fight alongside the host-nation forces to buy NATO more time for reinforcement. NATO’s presence in the region is currently not large enough to achieve this,” the report said.
The report further suggests that Poland should purchase modern weapons from the US such as the US-made JASSM aircraft-launched cruise missiles, which could hit targets deep inside Russia, or the coastal NSM missiles, which can be placed in range of the Russian city of Kaliningrad.
The document also urges Polish authorities to find a way to stop military age men from leaving Poland and moving to other EU countries because that would weaken the country’s military capacity.
While NATO deals with Russia, the Baltic States should prepare themselves for sudden Russian aggression. The first step is, of course, buying overpriced weapons and military equipment from the US.
