(Newswire.net — November 9, 2013) ChicagoIllinois — On November 5, 2013 Illinois lawmakers voted to allow same-sex marriages. Governor Quinn has stated he will sign the bill into law. This would make Illinois the 15th state to pass same-sex marriage laws. Illinois is the largest state to do so in the central US. It is a time that many have waited years and even decades to see happen. Plans are already in the works and the demand for services may exceed the supply so both those choosing to marry and those providing services are racing to stay ahead.

Illinois allowing same-sex marriages brings $66 Million in wedding business in the first year.

The Williams Institute estimates that of the 23,049 same-sex couples living in Illinois, 50% or 11,525 would choose to marry in the 3 years after Illinois approved same-sex marriages. This would bring the state’s wedding industry $74 Million in increased business. The increase in tourism from out-of-town visitors would bring in another $29 million. It is expected that the first year would bring in $66 million of new business into the state.

If the marriages occur as have in other states we would expect 64% of the marriages to be in the first year, 21% in the second year and 15% in the third year. What is not included is the same-sex couples that would come from other states to be married in Illinois and many would come to Chicago.

In 2012 100 Chicago wedding professionals formed I-Standup

Chicago is a great place for weddings.

Chicago has been a city for all people. Chicago is a major city, filled with magnificent restaurants, stores, art, music, theatre, comedy and venues of all types. There are places for the wedding party to enjoy whatever their preference. It is a destination for out of town guests. If it exists you can find it in Chicago.

It is a new age in technology and in social progress.

In our new age of video, smartphone cameras, social media and Google hangouts sharing the experience, even in real-time, is not only possible but probable. It is now affordable to any couple. A wedding can now be watched from anywhere in the world by anyone with internet. Never before has this been possible.

It is a time for celebration, happiness, love and equality. When any group is accepted and respected as equal all people become better. This has been a long journey and will continue. Maybe one day we will have a time when children will have to ask “What is inequality?” because the concept they have never experienced/
