North Korea War Threat Spurs Sales of Emergency Preparedness Items

(Newswire.net — August 31, 2017) Woodbridge, VA — The looming threat of a war between the U.S. and North Korea has incited a spike in sales of survival gear.

The escalating verbal tension between Donald Trump and Kim Jung-un, compounded by the firing of a North Korean missile over the Japanese mainland, has sparked a fear of a potential war between the two sparring countries.

Those in the ‘doomsday prepper’ business are seeing some of their highest sales ever in just the past month. Some of the most popular items being purchased are dehydrated food, camp stoves, fire starters, water filters, and more interestingly- costume gas masks and underground bunkers.

While doomsday prepping has always been a niche market, an increase in sales is typical following an alarming new story, or economic downturn. Prepping, as it is called, alleviates fears of the consumer, as they feel they are taking precautionary steps in case of an apocalyptic situation. Prepping isn’t only in case of political turmoil; it is also in case of a natural disaster (such as Hurricane Harvey), job loss or economic collapse.

Prepping for economic collapse or war may seem far-fetched, but being prepared for a hurricane or superstorm is something everyone should do. Even if you are not in the line of a hurricane, most regions of the U.S. are susceptible to natural disasters, such as blizzards, tornados, wildfires, and mudslides.

Here are three simple steps you can take to prep for the next natural disaster to hit your area:

1. Put together an emergency kit for your home and one for each family car. Fill it with items to last at least 3 days, such as bottled water, non-perishable food items, warm layers, portable batteries and a first aid kit.

2. Ensure you have extras of any prescription medication you may take in the house and car.

3. Learn basic first-aid and CPR skills, so you can lend a hand if a family member or neighbor becomes injured during a natural disaster.

Though we may not all feel the need to prep for an impending war with North Korea, it is a good idea to be prepared in case of a natural disaster, which may truly strike at any time and does not take any considerations.
