Smog and Ragweed a Double Health Risk for Americans this Fall

(Newswire.net — September 17, 2018) Crown Point, Indiana — One-in-three Americans live in a city where respiratory health problems are compounded by smog and ragweed pollen. The “Sneezing and Wheezing” report from the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) says 40 percent of Americans live in areas where they are exposed to this double-edged threat to their health.

The cities range from the East Coast, across the middle of the country, to the West Coast. The report lists the worst areas as the District of Columbia, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Utah, Ohio, Arizona, Michigan, Massachusetts, Delaware, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Indiana, and Kansas.

Ragweed was chosen for the study because more people are allergic to its pollen than all other plants combined. Climate change, caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal, both worsens ozone pollution and extends the ragweed season, the report said. The ragweed season is now almost a month longer than it was 20 years ago.

Another reason ragweed affects so many people is that the fine powder-like pollen is wind-borne, while other plants depend on birds and insects for pollination. And because it’s in the air, it’s easy to breathe in.

“A ragweed allergy can cause a runny or stuffy nose, a headache, itchy eyes, and an itchy throat, so that seasonal “cold” might, in fact, be what many people call Hayfever,” explains Brett Dines, CEO of WellSource Nutraceuticals, a company that formulates and produces natural remedies using high-quality ingredients and good manufacturing processes. “The body releases histamines to counteract what it sees as a foreign substance and it’s the histamines that cause these symptoms.”

Histamine Shield Plus is a formulation that assists the body’s immune system to cope with allergens and prevent the need for the release of histamines that cause the health problems. Where traditional antihistamines can have unwanted side effects, Histamine Shield Plus is all natural, pharmacist-recommended and non-drowsy.

Anyone living in these areas where smog and ragweed are taking a toll on respiratory health, giving the body’s immune system a helping hand so it doesn’t release histamines makes good sense.
