The Pocatello Sports Committee and this year’s sponsor Portneuf Health Partners are proud to announce Running the Gap 2019, the 20th annual Portneuf Health Partners Pocatello Marathon. Running the Gap 2019 Marathon offers different races to suit everyone’s goals. The race includes the Pocatello Marathon (26.2 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles), 5K (3.1 miles), MaraFUN (1.0 mile) and For Kids “2” (0.2 miles), featuring point-to-point courses for both full and half-marathon participants.

For full marathon participants, the race is a great opportunity to shoot for PR (Personal Record) as it is known for its downhill with approximately 1,550 feet elevation drop for the entire course, with 1,440 feet drop just in the first half.

The elevation drop at the beginning of the Pocatello Marathon is due to the course winding through the mountains. This race takes runners through the southern Idaho city known as the “Gateway to the Northwest”, providing a beautiful backdrop as the marathon kicks off, the sun rises and casts its glow on the runners and surrounding mountains.

Another great advantage to participating in the Pocatello Marathon is that this race is a Boston and New York Marathon qualifier. In order to even submit an application for these famous marathons, one has to meet or beat the qualifying times on a certified course. Pocatello is USA T&F certified (Certification Number: ID16002LAB ) and can be used as qualifying time for the Boston Marathon.

A spokesperson for The Pocatello Sports Committee said: “This is a great family activity and race, as we have numerous families that make it an annual event. We also have a large contingent from Canada each year and people from the “50 States” club (those who have run a marathon in all 50 states). So we do offer something for everyone at all levels in the race.”
