Scientists Now Find a More Promising Treatment for Diarrhea

(Newswire.net — September 24, 2020) Orlando, FL — Diarrhea is quite common, especially in children. Today, there are many researchers who are carrying out studies to look into the best techniques for fighting this potentially fatal digestive health issue.

A study was carried out by the researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

In this research, the investigators were able to develop the most common type of Cryptosporidium in the lab. It is worth mentioning that this parasite is one of the top causes of diarrhea worldwide. However unlike other causes, there are no known drugs to kill it.

According to researchers, the technological advance they were able to develop may speed up efforts in treating the fatal infection.

The senior author is L. David Sibley, PhD, the Alan A. and Edith L. Wolff, Distinguished Professor of Molecular Microbiology.

“This parasite was described over 100 years ago, and scientists have never been able to reliably grow it in the lab, which has hampered our ability to understand the parasite and develop treatments for it,” said Sibley.

The findings are published online June 20 in Cell Host & Microbe.

In the United States, smaller outbreaks of diarrhea are often reported and many are linked with water playgrounds and swimming pools.

Experts warn that there are many different diarrhea symptoms. These include cramping, bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, dehydration, a fever, a large volume of stools, bloody stools, and a frequent urge to evacuate the bowels.

It is worth realizing that this condition causes dehydration that when left untreated could result in serious consequences. The symptoms of dehydration to watch out for are a headache, increased heart rate, dry mucous membranes, lightheadedness, and increased thirst.

Certain medications are often used in helping patients, but it is important to note that there are also natural remedies scientists found beneficial against diarrhea.

Activated charcoal is one of these remedies and this is due to the highly porous surface it contains. This carbonaceous, highly porous adsorptive ingredient has networks of pores that trap toxins and unhealthy substances.

It is called adsorption due to the fact that the pores of activated charcoal are slightly larger than the molecules it tries to absorb.

According to researchers, activated charcoal is widely used in cases of food poisoning and digestive health issues.

In a review in 2017, it has been found that this natural remedy was able to inhibit bacteria and drugs from being absorbed inside the body. It is worth noting that these drugs and bacteria can cause diarrhea.

Individuals who usually travel and are susceptible to digestive health issues may take into account the use of Purest Vantage Activated Charcoal (http://amazon.com/Pure-Organic-Activated-Charcoal-Capsules/dp/B01M0322EC)
