Controlling Type 2 Diabetes Through Diet and Exercise

(Newswire.net — May 3, 2018) Cheyenne, Wyoming — Everyone knows that proper eating habits and exercise is important for a healthy lifestyle but this is even more vital for diabetics. A low carb diet is best advised so vegetables with little to no starch, fruits, legumes and such are ideal.

“Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is vital to your health because it’s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It’s also your brain’s main source of fuel. If you have diabetes, no matter what type, it means you have too much glucose in your blood, although the causes may differ. Too much glucose can lead to serious health problems.”

Foods that are sweet can be enjoyed in moderation based on doctor’s orders but it’s generally to be avoided. There are many recipes sites to be found online which offer a delicious range of meal ideas to satisfy taste buds so creating a customized diet plan is a breeze these days.

“A healthy diet is critical for people with diabetes,” says Medical News Today. “The foods that they eat each day can have a considerable impact on how they feel and how well their diabetes is controlled. In general, people with diabetes should eat foods that help control blood sugar levels and that offer health benefits such lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. This is one of the best ways to keep diabetes under control, avoid complications, and lead the healthiest life possible.”

All this meal prep must be done in conjunction with exercise to be effective as consuming calories requires the subsequent burning of calories for efficiency and good health. Activities such as cycling, jogging, swimming, walking and strength training are excellent ways to stay fit, in fact the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobics each week, that works out to about five exercise sessions lasting 30 minutes each. Diet and exercise also affects the body’s internal pH levels that should always stay on the alkaline side.

“The human body has a particular range of pH that it needs to be at for good health,” explains Diabetes Self-Management, an authoritative and reliable health publisher established since 1983. “The pH is simply a measure of acid-base balance in the body. A pH of 0 is very acidic, 7 is neutral, and a 14 is very alkaline. In normal situations, the body likes to be at a pH of 7.35 to 7.45. The stomach, however, which is very acidic, has a much lower pH of 1.35 to 3.50. In a condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), ketones, which are acids, build up in the blood and urine.”

For diabetics, it’s important to constantly check internal pH levels to ensure a safe blood sugar range is maintained. Convenient home analysis is available through the HealthyWiser™ pH Test Strips which provide accurate results within seconds from saliva or urine samples. Additionally, ketone levels are also important so the HealthyWiser™ Ketone Urinalysis Reagent Strips are offered to provide specific information with regards to veering away from diabetic ketoacidiosis.
