(Newswire.net — July 2, 2019) New Milton, Hampshire — The progressive brain disease, dementia, describes a condition where the brain slowly loses cognitive function over many years. As a result, affected individuals experience a decline in mental health that results in memory loss, confusion, impaired decision making, as well as issues with speech and communication.

Current statistics from Alzheimers.org show that more than 850,000 UK citizens suffer from some form of dementia, with individuals over the age of 65 accounting for 95-per cent of all cases diagnosed by medical practitioners. In the UK, there is a diagnosis of dementia every three minutes, with those numbers set to escalate into the future.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, affecting over 65-percent of all patients diagnosed with the condition. Unfortunately, with the “Baby Boomer” generation reaching their senior years, Alzheimers.org expect the numbers to continue to rise.

Estimates show that the disease will affect more than 1-million people in the UK, by 2025, with that figure doubling to 2-million by 2051.

The Effects of Dementia

Anyone who has a relative who is suffering from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease understands the terrible nature of the condition. This degenerative brain disease causes a complete deterioration of the mind of the affected individual.

Watching your loved one slowly lose their mind is a harrowing experience that no-one should have to endure – especially the patient. However, many Alzheimer’s patients in the United Kingdom fail to receive the support and treatment they need to manage their condition. As a result, affected individuals feel isolated and alone in their battle against the disease.

Without the right treatment and support, Alzheimer’s patients may experience a rapid onset of the condition that eventually claims their life. The dedication and hard work of non-profits like The Alzheimer’s Society provides hope and security to patients who are suffering from dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society – Helping Those in Need

Founded in 1979, The Alzheimer’s Society spent the last 40-years providing managed care and health solutions to those in need. The institution reaches out to every region of the United Kingdom, assisting Alzheimer’s patients with a range of services that increase the quality of life in those individuals afflicted by the condition.

The Alzheimer’s Society is currently the only charity in the United Kingdom that actively supports individuals living with dementia. The management and leadership of the charity campaigns for awareness and research into the disease.

The Alzheimer’s Society provides the medical community with data that assists doctors with managing patients while meeting the social care challenges of patients across the region.

The Alzheimer’s Society – A Treatment and Management Model that Works

Every year, The Alzheimer’s Society continues to invest in research, treatment, prevention, and care. The organization is committed to spending more than £150-million on cutting-edge research over the coming decade, with a model that produces results.

Campaigns – The Alzheimer’s Society continues to elevate public and government awareness of the impact of the disease on the UK public. Through the “Dementia Friends” education programme, more than 2-million people are now aware of how to identify and care for family members and friends living with dementia.

Support – Unfortunately, many seniors across the UK, face the challenge of dealing with dementia alone. Some individuals do not know where to turn when they start to experience the onset of the condition. As a result, these isolated patients experience a faster deterioration of their mental health, diminishing their quality of life.

The Alzheimer’s Society aims to increase awareness of dementia to the public, with the strategic goal of providing support to all newly diagnosed patients by 2022.

Dementia Connect – The Alzheimer’s Society aims to innovate the support available to dementia patients. This transformative programme combines face-to-face support, with online and telephonic advice by highly trained advisers. The goal of Dementia Connect is to help patients take back control of their life, allowing them to remain independent for a longer period.

Group services – The Alzheimer’s Society provides a broad range of services to support those individuals who are dealing with the effects of dementia in their life. Support services include counselling, advice and reassurance, as well as specialized programs, such as “Dementia Cafés,” and “Singing for the Brain.”

The Alzheimer’s Society aims to increase public awareness of the disease, allowing affected individuals to make informed decisions about managed care and support for their condition.

Research – There is no cure available for dementia, and the last 15-years has not seen any innovation in drug therapy. However, the leap in managed care and understanding the mechanism of the disease continues to advance.

The Alzheimer’s Society continues to invest in research for care, treatment, and prevention of the disease. The organization also funds “Centres of Excellence,” which focus on themes relevant to patients living with dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society is one of the founding funders of the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI), bringing together more than 400 medical professionals specializing in the prevention, treatment, and research of dementia in patients across the United Kingdom.

With innovations in medicine and treatment methods, The Alzheimer’s Society continues to invest into its “Drug Discovery programme,” providing alternative drug therapies while reducing costs of medications for those people who are dealing with the effects of dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society – The Challenge of Funding

Caring for people affected by Alzheimer’s is no easy task. Every year, The Alzheimer’s Society spends nearly £100-million on services and research. Thanks to generous donations made by the public and the business sector, income for The Alzheimer’s Society surged from £103.6 million to £106.9 over the last year.

These donations are vital to maintaining the work of the organization, resulting in a 3-per cent increase in spending on related projects in 2018. This financial support allowed The Alzheimer’s Society to assist more than 100,000 new patients in the last year alone.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to dealing with the effects of dementia on the people of the United Kingdom. Currently, for every £1 of funding, the organization spends 89p on treatment, with the remainder helping to support frontline activities.

With the NHS under tremendous financial pressure and government funding for social and medical programmes drying up, there is less money available for the care, treatment, and management of Alzheimer’s patients.

The talented and dedicated team at The Alzheimer’s Society commit their time and effort into helping others – but they can’t do it alone.

The Alzheimer’s Society – Funded by People that Care

The Alzheimer’s Society relies on generous donations to maintain the levels of service to those in need. Without the support from the public and private sector, the company does not have the opportunity to continue its work.

Atlas Ceramics, founded in 1985 by Charley Olliffe, is the premier tiling company in the United Kingdom. The current director at Atlas Ceramics, Mike Head, believes in investing in social responsibility initiatives, giving back to the communities that support the business.

Four years ago, the company leadership chose The Alzheimer’s Society as the recipient for the company’s charity fund-raising drive, donating each year to reach a peak of over £700 in 2018.

The team and management at Atlas Ceramics remain steadfast in their commitment support of The Alzheimer’s Society, continuing to raise funds for the non-profit in 2019.

Andy Kendall, a representative from The Alzheimer’s Society, accepted the invitation to the Atlas Ceramics offices in New Milton, Hampshire, to receive the 2019 donation. Andy dedicates a significant portion of his time and energy into helping raise funding for The Alzheimer’s Society.

Whether the man is biking across the country to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s patients – or rallying support for the industry, Andy Kendall is one of those unique human beings that enjoy giving back to those in need.

Upon his arrival to the Atlas Ceramics premises, Andy had the opportunity to meet with employees and management to discuss pressing issues facing dementia patients. The team gained valuable insight into how The Alzheimer’s Society intends to achieve its goals of improving managed care, treatment, and research into dementia and its effects on the UK public.

After a productive and motivating meeting with the team, Peter James – Atlas Ceramics “Employee of the Year,” presented Andy Kendall with a cheque for £1030.74. With this donation, Atlas Ceramics broke the previous company record by more than 30-per cent. Mike Head insists that the company will continue to set new records with their contribution in 2020.

Atlas Ceramics managed to achieve their four-figure donation this year through multiple funding initiatives. During the company’s annual barbeque earlier in the year, suppliers, clients, and local business owners had the opportunity to support the cause and pledge generous donations to the charity drive.

Mike Head went on to state that the support this year was like nothing they expected. The community rallying around the company’s efforts to produce a record-breaking donation for The Alzheimer’s Society was both inspiring and motivating for every member of the Atlas Ceramics team.

Who Are Atlas Ceramics?

Atlas Ceramics is the brainchild of Charley Olliffe. With decades of experience in products and services in the tiling industry, Mr Olliffe founded the company in 1985. The business expanded rapidly over the next decade, requiring Charley to take on a business partner – Mr David Newman.

In 2000, Mr Newman assumed full control of the company upon the retirement of Mr Olliffe. In 2005, Mike Head decided to leave his successful career in finance at HSBC, purchasing Atlas Ceramics, on the 14th February 2005.

Faced with a competitive marketplace, Mike realized that the key to success was forming a strong team that could help the business grow into the future. When Peter James decided to join the company back in May 2006, the company began to experience rapid growth.

Peter found his calling at Atlas Ceramics, and what started as a 2-year consultancy before his retirement, turned into a 14-year relationship with Atlas Ceramics, and at 80-years of age, Peter has no intentions of retiring any time soon.

Both Mike Head and Peter James attribute the success of the business to management’s ability to navigate a sophisticated retail environment. The company was one of the first UK tile retailers to launch online, experiencing rapid growth as the UK public woke up to the trend of e-commerce.

Currently, Atlas Ceramics is one of the leading tile retailers in the UK. Mike Head keeps a watchful eye on all industry trends and developments, ensuring that the company remains poised on the leading-edge of tile production, design, and technology.

When asked about the keys to the company’s success, Mike firmly believes that Atlas Ceramics rise to the top of the industry is due to innovation, a strong team – and plenty of hard work.

While Atlas Ceramics does most of its business online, the company still maintains a gorgeous showroom in New Milton, Hampshire. The warehouses are a stone’s throw from the showroom as well.

Atlas Ceramics only import the finest products from leading European manufacturers in Spain, Italy, and Portugal. Specializing in porcelain and ceramic tiles, as well as mosaics and natural stone, in polished, matt, satin finishes – Atlas Ceramics has the floor and wall tile solution you need for your bathroom or kitchen.

With over thirty years of serving the UK with the best tiling products and information, Atlas Ceramics aims to be the leading tiling retailer in the UK, providing exceptional quality in their products, and outstanding customer service.

Atlas Ceramics – Making a Difference

Mike Head and the management team at Atlas Ceramics take corporate responsibility initiatives seriously. Both Mike and Peter believe in giving back to the community that supports the business. The team believes that The Alzheimer’s Society provides the company with the opportunity to help seniors in need of medical care and support for dementia patients.

Mike Head and Peter James understand that it is the responsibility of the business to generate a profit, but at the same time, they want to provide a lasting social impact on the country. The Alzheimer’s Society delivers Atlas Ceramics with a platform to give back to communities all across the United Kingdom.
